I think I have wondered about that on a post or two. After hearing Morning Joe this morning, it would appear Dem leadership has good reason to believe that Trump will fold on this one if for no other reason then its in his own best interest. Therefore, I have concluded that the reason the Dems are willing to stand on this hill, is simply because they are desperate for a win and a win will calm their base down. Got news for them, a win on this won't restore confidence in Dem Leadership.

I wonder if he developed this in some twisted reliance on the lie of the midwives in Exodus, maybe the only time that lying is not condemned in the Bible? I am not religious myself but am what you might call a cultural Christian by upbringing and I don’t think that pre-meditated planning a lie around a possible loophole in the Bible would work in the afterlife, if there were an afterlife.

Employees in the FBI’s DC and New York field offices received a highly unusual message from their leadership flagged with high importance late Tuesday telling them: “Per a priority request from the Executive Office of the President of the United States, please search any areas where papers or physical media records may be stored, to include both open or closed cases, for records responsive to Amelia Earhart.”

FBI employees were given a priority deadline of Wednesday to respond to the request, which comes on the seventh day of an ongoing federal government shutdown.

Earhart was attempting to become the first woman to fly around the world when her plane went missing over the Pacific Ocean in 1937. She was declared lost at sea following a 16-day search.

President Donald Trump last month said he was directing his administration to “declassify and release all government records” related to Earhart.

The lie of the midwives in Exodus was technically to avoid complying with the government command to kill any male child born to a Hebrew (though if you read it closely, the lie was more to prevent the midwives for being punished for non-compliance with the edict). It is the only tale in the Bible involving lying where no wrath of God or at least stern lectures about lying keeping you out of Heaven ensues, so there are extreme anti-abortion types who read that as a wink and a nod from God that it’s ok to lie to save the life of a baby (or not get in trouble if you lie about your actions if the underlying purpose was to save a baby).

I would not be surprised if Johnson knows about and/or believes in the lie of the widwives loophole and maybe subconsciously used it in this clip — lying about what the healthcare fight is over hiding behind his concern for a pregnant citizen who he alleges would get worse care in the ER than an uppity illegal because the federal reimbursement for providing ER coverage for the immigrant. He’s lying and pretending it is to save babies, which, if you believe in the interpretation of the lie of the midwife, means he expects a free pass from God for that lie.

Of course he lies on the regular, so more likely he doesn’t care. But this particular hypothetical reminded me of the lie of the midwife loophole.

I really don't see how we as a nation come back from this sort of stuff. This is National Forest website, not FoxNews. The bit about only supporting those who deserve support was particularly awful.
