I don't think we know yet, and probably won't know for a while, which party will be blamed for the shutdown. In the past, the party in control has generally been blamed, regardless of what role the out-of-power party played. That said, shutdowns have now become so common that I'm not convinced the general public really blames either party for them. It just further erodes Americans' already extremely low view of the government in general. The Pubs are definitely better at the rhetorical game (largely because they lie with absolute impunity), but it's not clear how important that rhetoric is on things like this.
What Americans WILL care about and respond to are things like health insurance premiums going up by hundreds or thousands of dollars, government agencies shutting down and therefore not being available to help with whatever people might need, flights being delayed because air traffic controllers are calling in sick rather than working for no pay, etc. And that's a messaging battle the Dems certainly should be able to win. If they can't, we're just fucked.
I think they're actually starting to get desperate, which I didn't believe would happen. I've read in several places today that Trump has been trying to secretly contact Democrats about ending the shutdown, which I can believe (of course Trump would deny it publicly). Or maybe he's just lying as usual and saying this - but he would only say something like this if he was getting worried about a public backlash to him and his party (mostly him). And as we've seen with his TACO tariffs he'll fold like a house of cards if he thinks he might get damaged in any way. I'm not saying at all that this will end well for Democrats, but I do think Trump and Republicans are starting to show some signs of nervousness and strain and worry the longer this goes.

I also think that Trump and Republicans didn't think that Democrats would hold out this long, which also probably has them worried.
MTG is indirectly making a great case for single payer here! Republicans have had 15+ years to come up with a free-market solution that lowers insurance premiums without destroying care and they haven't because it simply isn't possible. Hate insurance? Want lower premiums? Single payer is the only answer.MTG has escaped the asylum and is making trouble for her keepers
This is the EXACT issue that Republicans seem to think they are losing traction over in this shutdown fight — since a GOP conference call this past weekend, from Trump down through GOP Congressional leadership have shared a talking point that it is the GOP that is really trying to “fix healthcare”. They are pretty clearly aware that is the opposite of what Americans currently think about them.
And here comes MTG to stomp all over the messaging in her own deranged style, apparently mainly because her own adult kids will be directly impacted.
I would ask whether she is on drugs due to the whiplash statements in her post, but probably the more salient question is did they change her meds after the 2024 election?
