This is why Johnson's daily press conference routine has been so freaking stupid. He's boxed himself into a corner that precludes any compromise. We've known for a long time Johnson is a lightweight, a man of no principles, a sycophant to Trump. But he's also proven to be an extraordinarily stupid politician.

Smart. Would be a political win ("why would the Pubs not agree to that highly popular extension earlier?"), and still lets Dems campaign on the soon-to-be expiring subsidies in 2026. Pubs would be stupid to reject this, but who knows?
