I've got the ying/yang thing going on.

On one hand I'm gutted that the cowardly Dems caved on they Shutdown fight.

On the other hand I'm acutely aware that it is only my enormous privilege that allows me to feel gutted by the Dems caving here. There are literally millions of people whose position of less privilege meant that they have been praying for an end to the shutdown. It feels important to acknowledge that.

Trump and trumpism made this happen...all of this.

There's the blame.

“… The bonus money provided to agents will come from carry over funds from fiscal year 2025, according to an internal memo at the Department of Homeland Security, obtained by MSNBC….”

Happy Holidays to these guys and thanks for your service.

I should would like more information on how those "several thousand" TSA agents were chosen. Aren't the other TSA agents who didn't get the bonus pissed? There are upwards of 50,000 TSA agents.

I mean the very best case scenario I can build here would be that that this would be some sort of weird "perfect attendance award"?

Anybody have more info on what the full story here is?

This post is going to be cut and pasted into the FAFO thread one day.

Fundamental Law of Nature #1: Without the Federal government, the most highly organized group with the most guns owns you and your family lock stock an barrel. They can control every aspect of your life. They can kill and rape with impunity.

In point of fact, the federal government has ALWAYS been our "most highly organized group with the most guns". And we've been damned lucky that this has been the case for all of our adult lives.

Go ahead and FAFO and see if the next "most highly organized group with the most guns" to come along is going to treat you better than our federal government once you've gotten rid of it.

Moral of the story: We can always make it better. But we can never do without it.
Who are these groups you speak of.

Well, I'd say the best example in the world right now would the be the Rapid Support Forces raping and ethnic cleansing their way across the Sudan as we speak.

This article is only 20 minutes old

But the pattern is the universally the same anywhere the capital "S" State breaks down. The most organized group with the most guns ends up doing whatever the fuck they've wanted all along, and if that involved shooting all the males in your family and raping all the women, well, unfortunately, the world has seen that movie over and over again.

Idiots rambling on about "drowning the government in a bathtub" have no idea what they are actually asking for.

I wonder how those groups do when the other side has guns and knows how to use them. I promise you it will not be that easy over this way. It’s a lot of old country people like me. Many that have been and still are in the Military.

The other side HAVe guns and know how to use them. They just have less of them and are less organized. The other side is the SAF (the actual Sudanese Aremed Forces). Turns out someone thought it was a good idea to drown their government in the bathtub.

A functional federal government is the only thing between you and this.

You sound like you live in fear all the time. Sad.

Also to add the civilian population in the United States and the population in the Sudan really are comparable. When it comes to guns.

I don't live in fear, precisely because I live in a country with one of the strongest federal governments with the most dedication to civil liberties that has ever existed on earth.

I'm just tying to explain to you why, if we have have one or more issues with some facet of or government or another, reforming that government from within through voting in candidates that believe in the mandate of good governance is the correct way to address that.

And conversely, what a spectacularly catastrophically bad idea any notion of "we don't need government, let's dismantle it" or even worse this fucking "burn it all down and start from scratch" mind virus that is out there now. That path leads to atrocities 100% of the time.
