Great to start with some clutch hitting. I feel good about this team getting some runs across against pretty much any right-handed pitcher. It's lefties who tend to slow us down, given our lineup composition.

Another narrow strike zone today. (is this the same home plate ump from yesterday?) That was a real issue for our pitchers yesterday. Hopefully we can keep the location good and the pitch counts down today.

Sooners with 2 on (1st and 2nd) with two outs.

Fielder’s Choice hit to Gallaher at 3rd and he steps on the base for the final out.

Lynch gave up a single and a walk; settled down to get the 2nd and 3rd outs. 3-0 heading to T2.

Angelo with a lead-off single.

Carter French showing bunt. Hits into a double play at 2nd.
I really hate bunting this early in the game, especially with no one out. I understand that the primary point of bunting there is that French is a weak hitter and they were attempting to avoid the exact double play that happened. However, unless we're much deeper into the game, I would much prefer sending even a weak hitter up there with the mindset that he's trying to get on base.

Lynch walks the batter. Gaines out to the mound to talk with Lynch.

One out, one on. Gaines back to the dugout. Lynch strikes batter out. One on, 2 outs. Fly ball to right center and Bass is on it.

3-2 Heels, T3.

Wilson represented well on this team. Grads from Hunt (Bass) and Fike (Stokely) in the lineup.
Stokely's older brother (who, apropos nothing, is 6'9") is a childhood friend of my SIL. I can't remember if it was last year or the year before, but Stokely aggravated an injury and wasn't going to be able to play in some game, he told his bro who told my SIL who told me. I immediately went to the baseball board and cryptically suggested somebody was likely going to be scratched before the game, which in fact happened. It was my first and last post not only on the baseball board but on any board in which my post contained even the faintest whiff of "inside" info...

T3, men on the corners with one out.

Sooners headed to the bullpen. Gavin Jones, LHP, in the game.

Jones walks Stokely to load bases with one out.

Madera at bat.

Madera with a bouncing single to first to score one. Bases still loaded. Bass up.

4-2, Heels.

Ryan Lynch threw 34 pitches in the 1st two innings. Starts with a strikeout after that long inning for the Heels. Strikes out the 2nd batter. Three up, three down! Ground ball to second.

7-2, Heels. T4.

VDB leads off with a single.

The only Tar Heel to NOT reach base today is Kane Kepley of all people.

Luke HBP.

Men on 1st and 2nd. No outs. Gavin Gallaher to bat. Gallaher hits fly ball to foul territory. He’s out. VDB moves to third. One out. Stokely flies out to left and VDB scores. 8-2. Two outs. Stevenson thrown out trying to steal 2nd. 8-2 heading to the B4.

Lynch out to pitch. Gives up hit to lead-off hitter. Fly ball to Bass on the track. One out, one on (1st). Lynch strikes out Dickerson with sliders. Two outs. Willets flies out to left.

8-2 Heels, heading to T5.

Lynch at 66 pitches in his 2nd start. He was held to a 65 pitch count in his other start.

Strikes out 1st batter.

Shallow fly ball that neither Kepley nor VDB could get….they collide. Both walking it off. Coach Forbes and training staff out to check on them. Both players look fine.

Man on 2nd; one out. Strikes him out. 6 K’s for Lynch. Fly ball to right.

8-2, T6.

Kepley steals his 42nd base (46 attempts). Stevenson strikes out.

8-2, B6.

Home plate umpire goes over to say something to OU’s coach.
