Huge, huge Scott Forbes fan- and he has forgotten, relearned, and forgotten again more baseball than I’ll ever know- but I’m a bit puzzled by the decision to bring Walker McDuffie into a seven run lead last night but not bring him in to a tie game 5-5 ninth thinning tonight. I’m sure Coach had a good reason, it just confused me a bit.

Yea we managed the series like it was a normal series. I don’t particularly understand the Mcduffy use Thursday but Lynch has been our 1b so I don’t really mind using him in the 9th. Just thought we messed up the 7th/8th with Seagraves/Boaz leading to having to use Chewy/Bolton in a 1 run game in the 9th
 
all decisions are easy in hindsight. sometimes a coaches decision works, sometimes it doesnt. they arent all knowing, neither are we.

we must win sunday to show we can win a series vs a ranked team.

If we make it to the CWS, we are going to need a lot more than McDuffy and Lynch to win 1-run games. If we don't think we can win with those other guys at home, in a tied game with a ton of momentum, then what is going to happen if we get to Omaha when it really matters. You need to have some confidence in your bullpen that you have seen pitch all year --and we have had the best bullpen in the ACC this year.

I hear ya and I agree...however we had relied on our bullpen. Our starter was relieved in the 5th. We were in the 9th. Our closer has thrown 1 inning and won't have an opportunity to pitch again until Sunday...48 hours after the 9th last night. As I said, it's really a move I don't understand. I did expect Lynch to go out for the 9th, but it would have been until 1 baserunner reached for me and then it would have been WD40.

But that's one of the things that makes baseball great...the ability to talk endlessly about such decisions.

For the record, I'd have also pinch hit for French in the 8th so we likely wouldn't have scored the tying run in the first place.
 
I’m with uncjhodges. Didn’t understand using Mcduffy on Thursday. Don’t understand using him with a 7 run lead. That’s when you get the better arms in the bullpen who aren’t Mcduffy or Lynch some work. I get securing game one but still. With that said, was surprised state put up 3 in the 9th, though it had been that kind of game.

We have also lost our 3rd best bullpen arm for the year a few weeks ago. So it’s been a work in progress. Seagraves has stepped into that 3rd role but I think Forbes just over managed Thursday and in the 7th leading to him wasting Boaz so we ended up with our maybe 5th, 6th and 7th best current arms in crucial spots in the 9th

100%. Audibly said “not french” and by the time i said it he’d had an rbi single and was on 2nd

Baseball continues through the end of classes. We still have FSU next weekend and then the ACC & NCAA tournaments.

So, probably.

I don’t think we can extend into Monday. We also play Tuesday and start the At FSU series on Thursday so doubt we’d be too happy to extend it into Monday

I believe the league has a rule against it...specifically because UNC and NC State did it a couple of times in years past and other coaches lost their shit because they don't have that ability due to travel.

I admit this is beyond my knowledge, but it really would be such an ACC thing to do to make a rule to prevent teams from making up games just because it would benefit the NC teams.
