I get that. But why wouldn't it be like European club sports? Barcelona has a soccer team and a basketball team, and they compete in different leagues. for instance, Champion's League is not the same as Euroleague. I don't understand a single joint league, as opposed to having one league per sport

Yes, there could be multiple "leagues" -- I don't think anyone is wedded to a particular format for the future. But there will need to be contracts, a commissioner and probably salary caps.
