Sure. It’s not going to surprise me if Lloyd or TJO takes our job either. I just think some people underrate how hard it is to get a guy to leave when he’s already in a good situation competing at the highest level. Look at UK’s coaching search if you need an example that a blue blood can’t just snap its fingers and get whoever it wants.Bill Self was pretty happy at Illinois before he left for Kansas
Sherrell said and I completely agree with him, this search is about getting the absolute best coach we can (2021 was about getting the best fit), and so, we'll see just how strong of a program we have - is it really the best job in MBB coaching, or not. It will be telling who we end up hiring and who turns us down.Sure. It’s not going to surprise me if Lloyd or TJO takes our job either. Also, Self had only been at Illinois 3 years and the KU program he took over was in much better shape than the current UNC program.
Part of what I’m saying is UNC could be the best job in college bball, and it still wouldn’t guarantee us getting who we want. People act like it’s a math problem - that if a coach is in the 4th best job or the 7th best job and gets offered the best job he will automatically take it. But that’s not how it works in real life. TJO or Lloyd turning down our job doesn't mean their job is a better one, or that ours isn't as good as we hoped, it just might mean they are happy and successful where they are and don’t want to move to take ANY job right now.Sherrell said and I completely agree with him, this search is about getting the absolute best coach we can (2021 was about getting the best fit), and so, we'll see just how strong of a program we have - is it really the best job in MBB coaching, or not. Right. The "best job" is based on the wants and needs of those seeking the jobs.Part of what I’m saying is UNC could be the best job in college bball, and it still wouldn’t guarantee us getting who we want. Sure, but if we strike out on a few big names, I think it will say something about how Carolina basketball is viewed by the basketball community.Part of what I’m saying is UNC could be the best job in college bball, and it still wouldn’t guarantee us getting who we want. Would Iowa State’s AD tweet something this definitive if he wasn’t certain that his head men’s basketball coach wasn’t leaving?
Kentucky was hampered by the fact that Calipari was chased out of town. Don’t think anyone will be discouraged by the fact that we fired Hubert.Sure. I disagree with that ignoring fit and getting the best coach. Using that logic, Golden would be tier 1, ethical concerns aside. Fit always plays a role. That’s not to say it’s more important than coaching, but it’s a major factor. Oats is another fit concern - great coach. Probably not a good fit.Sherrell said and I completely agree with him, this search is about getting the absolute best coach we can (2021 was about getting the best fit), and so, we'll see just how strong of a program we have - is it really the best job in MBB coaching, or not. I forgot about KenPom and the importance of seedings...my badI don't want Oats but this isn't right. Oats has six straight years with a 6 seed or better, 5 of 6 with a 4 seed or better, 5 of 6 with S16 or better, 5 of 6 finished in KenPom top 14, 3 of 6 finished in KenPom top 10. If that was Hubert's track record he would still be the coach here.
Stevens is not a candidate.Stevens is the best combo of coaching and fit.
Others will be less of a sure thing IMO,
He remains a long, long shot but if you know, you know and it's not yet settled.Stevens is not a candidate.
Where was this "can't do" attitude a few weeks ago?just hope we don't get "Beamered"
I don't know how highup the list we will be succesful. But I have faith our 2 ADs won't get Beameredjust hope we don't get "Beamered"
You are surprised that when comparing two coaches’ performance, it actually matters how well their teams have played in the regular season and postseason?I forgot about KenPom and the importance of seedings...my bad
Guy is still Dead Sea salty about Hubert so he's going to piss in everyone's cornflakes for the foreseeable future. You are surprised that when comparing two coaches’ performance, it actually matters how well their teams have played in the regular season and postseason?
You gotta be impressed that the first time in over 70 years that Caroilina does an open search for a BB coach, we have 2 ADs lined up.I don't know how highup the list we will be succesful. But I have faith our 2 ADs won't get Beamered
