UNC Basketball Possible coaches - UNC hires ex-Nuggets HC Michael Malone

It's been posted on numerous pinned articles.
I haven't seen IC (Ben, Rell, etc.) say that Lloyd has reciprocated interest in the job. But, I also haven't read through all of those pages. (I was under the assumption that it was a recent post and that is why Turd mentioned it....I guess I'm getting my hopes up.)

Never mind, it's in Greg's article that "Sources have indicated that contact was made with Lloyd’s representation earlier this week and the interest has been reciprocated."

But your dad's comment about people losing their drive in their mid-60's was in response to Mack Brown being rehired by UNC's football coach. Maybe the lesson here is that if you get the best players year after year it matters a lot less how old the head coach is. Ergo, let's hire somebody whom the best players want to play for..
Nick Saban was a coach.

Mack was a TV studio guru.

One still had the fire for the work.

One liked working in a TV studio.

Sort of. Illinois has never won it all and that felt like a big step up for Self at the time. They’ve always felt like a step down from Arizona to me. 🤷‍♂️
Illinois is headed to the Final Four for the first time since 2005.

Kansas is obviously a better hoops school than Illinois. Illinois is a “sleeping giant” in football and basketball.

Arizona’s headed to the Final Four for the first time since 2001. Fifth time ever.

My son is inside studying but the snow and winter weather still messes with him.

You can't get around Ann Arbor when there's a lot of snow. Narrow streets and sharp turns.
Something tells me that your son, the student, is adversely impacted by the winter weather more than Dusty May.

May likely has:
  • A heated garage at home
  • A generator for when power goes out
  • A garage, maybe a heated one, at work that is REAL close to his office with a dedicated “Dusty May” parking space
  • Sidewalks around work are cleared and salted often
  • A big ass, NEW SUV to drive (one with heated seats and knobby-ass tires)
  • Possibly a heated driveway
  • A plowing service that clears his driveway and sidewalks FREQUENTLY during snow storms
  • The financial ability to have food and beverages delivered to home and work around the clock
Dusty May (and his family) likely experience crappy Ann Arbor winter weather much more easily and more comfortably than your son, a student, does.

To me, what’s interesting is that Dusty May moved to Alabama, Louisiana, and Florida in 2007.

He only returned to the “Great White North” in 2024.

Tommy Lloyd might be staying at Arizona.

But if I were a UNC fan, these comments would give me life.

Unless
he AZ AD is a ,moron, Lloyd is likely out.

Another run at ISU coach
Donovan/the 4% who say Stevens is still a remote chance

Vandy/Iowa.Purdue/UCLA/Miami
Stack or Wes Miller

Former Knicks or Bucks coach
Hoiberg at Nebraska. Did well at ISU amd Neb had a historic season this season. Didm't he interview back in 21?

And if he can’t I’d reckon he’d surely come to Carolina.

All dependent on whether there’s real truth to the rumor at all of rancor in athletics.

There’s a zero percent chance that Stack or Wes Miller is the next head coach of UNC men’s basketball. And rightly so.

Meanwhile lolstate is also looking for a coach:

With Will Wade jumping ship and returning to LSU and Baton Rouge on Thursday, coaching search mania has once again descended upon NC State as the university looks for the next leader of the men's basketball program.

NC State athletic director Boo Corrigan and the rest of the hiring group reportedly zeroed in on two top candidates, but the search won't be entirely dependent on those two names.

• Josh Schertz

NC State continues to be aggressive in its pursuit of Saint Louis head coach Josh Schertz, who looks to be the program's top target. A private jet owned by "Seven Wolves LLC" left Raleigh early Saturday morning, bound for St. Louis, presumably to present the Billikens' head coach with his first offer.

• Justin Gainey

The other top option, Tennessee associate head coach Justin Gainey, secured a victory in the Sweet 16 with the Volunteers on Friday, further complicating the timeline of his potential hiring. He has received support from former NC State players, including Chris Corchiani and Julius Hodge.

• Mark Byington, Vanderbilt head coach

After his team's heartbreaking loss to Nebraska in the Round of 32 at the NCAA Tournament, Vanderbilt head coach Mark Byington's name has been floated in a few different coaching searches, including both NC State and North Carolina. Across stops at the College of Charleston, Georgia Southern, James Madison and Vanderbilt, Byington put together a 267-160 record.

The interesting nugget with Byington is that one of Boo Corrigan's sons, Tre, is a graduate assistant for Vanderbilt under Byington. That could be something, or it could just be a fun fact. The simple fact is that Byington would be a totally acceptable rebound from Wade.

• Flynn Clayman, High Point head coach

Flynn Clayman is a unique option, taking over the High Point program for the 2025-26 season after former head coach Alan Huss left to become the coach-in-waiting at Creighton. Clayman helped the Panthers to a second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance by way of a Big South Tournament victory. However, he took things even further, knocking off Wisconsin in the first round of the Big Dance.

Going 31-5 in your first season as a head coach certainly creates some buzz, but the lack of experience as a head coach and the lack of experience at the Power Four level definitely creates some concern. However, Clayman would have no issue generating some more energy within the program with his youthful personality.

• Eric Olen, New Mexico head coach

Eric Olen would be a very different choice from the rest, as the entirety of his coaching career has been out west. He was an assistant coach at UC San Diego from 2004 to 2013, before taking over the head coaching position for the Tritons. He helped UCSD transition from Division II to Division I, building the program into an NCAA Tournament team in the 2024-25 season.

He immediately replaced Richard Pitino, a former NC State coaching candidate, at New Mexico and didn't miss a beat in the Mountain West, helping the Lobos to a 26-10 record as they continue to push through the NIT.
