UNC Basketball Possible coaches

For me, it's that IC has taken him off of their board. They would only do that if they were given info from UNC that he was out.

Tbh, I'm surprised he pulled out of consideration. I'd think the smart game would be to leverage for a more secure/better contract with ISU.
That's why I'm skeptical. It makes no sense for TJO to categorically refuse any interest. It makes no sense for anyone at UNC to leak that he's not interested. I mean, maybe the reporting is right but I wouldn't put too much stock in it when it is obviously contrary to rational incentives.

On his end, perhaps he was already given a (proposal of a) better contract in the past few days. On UNC's end, perhaps they've already got a coach lined up. I'm hoping they've line up Lloyd :)

It's possible that we were never all that interested in TJO. That would be more likely, in my opinion. Perhaps they want a bigger name, or they think TJO would cost too much, or that they want a proven winner. He's still pretty green. I get it, it's Iowa State, but it's not as if that program lacks any history of success. And until this year, they haven't been better than mediocre.

Which bigger name?

He's not coming to UNC.

After speaking with sources close to the Iowa State head coach, I can say that T. J. Otzelberger has pulled out of the North Carolina search and is not expected seasons. Don't think this is about UNC as much as it is about how much he loves the alignment at Iowa State.

Correct, but he probably wants his full salary, and doubt the Bulls want to pay him Not to play... but we shall see
My point is that we could wait until the NBA season is over, or at least announce him now and then have him start later. I don't know -- I've always thought Donovan was a longshot at best, so this doesn't move the needle for me. I freely admit I know almost nothing about recruiting coaches.

Re Tier and ease of getting IMO

1) Pitino age pf cpurse

2_ Donovan

3) Stevens if he has AMY interest in coacjhing a college blueblood

AZ Mich USU will be hard

Then Vandy or Iowa

Then Stack or Wes Miller

Yeah, I don't trust what IC says. I think they exaggerate their knowledge to sell subscriptions. I was never too excited about him anyway (and I said so) but I just don't know why we would assume he's out just because people on IC said. I get it, they are tied in, etc., but why would it serve anyone's interests to leak that?
No issue with anyone who wants to criticize IC but their coverage of UNC sports and info gsthering is by far the best. Claiming they exaggerate knowledge to sell subscriptions has no merit based on their history of coverage.

I keep circling back to the Stevens thing (if it is still at all a glimmer of a possibility, as some have hinted). At first glance it's like, why would this still even be a remote possibility -- why would he consider leaving such a good gig in Boston? But then I'm thinking... if you're young enough, if you've got ambition, you might want to do big things. You might not get your name on a building for being a general manager (unless you pay for it)... but you can have a legacy as a coach. Dunno. Prob should just stop thinking about it.
