UNC Basketball Possible coaches

Yup. Grew up 30 minutes from there in fact. Are you suggesting Dan Hurley would bail from an MCBB superpower and perennial championship contender because Chapel Hill is a better college town than Storrs? I don't think that pulls the weight you think it does. At least not anymore.
He's never coming. Still, Storrs and the surrounding area are dumps. Terrible weather and lousy environment.

The talk about Chapel Hill vs Stoors vs Tucson vs Ann Arbor is interesting.

Anyone remember one of the key factors in why Frank McGuire came to Chapel Hill?

I can’t see Hurley being any farther south than NJ. He’s 100% a north east kind of guy. I also can’t imagine living in Storrs though I really like and have spent a fair bit of time in Connecticutt.

Lloyd remains my top choice among the available candidates. He's a proven winner right now in the current NIL, easy transfer college system, and I think he would do extremely well here. I know people keep saying that the better Arizona does in the tourney the less likely it is that he will leave, but I'll keep hoping for the best until I hear otherwise. Donovan would be OK, but I am concerned about the fact that he he hasn't coached a single college game in over a decade. Donovan seems to have more "ifs" about him than Lloyd, imo, and would be a less impressive hire, although I'll certainly still root like hell for him to succeed if he's the pick.

Spit Take Lol GIF by Justin

What is it with half this board thinking that top coaches are just itching to leave a great situation they're in already (UConn, Arizona, Michigan, Boston Celtics...) to come coach at Carolina? Seriously, some of you need to take off the blue-tinted shades and realize that we are no more enticing than those programs today. What in the hell would Dan Hurley gain by leaving a hugely successful UConn program to come here? Get real.
The real spit take here is that you didn't get the joke.

I'm as guilty of it as anyone but I think that we as fans overrate the desirability of the UNC job *in THIS day and age* relative to the desirability of other similar high-major jobs. Unless someone grew up in North Carolina, or with connections to UNC/North Carolina, or was some sort of longtime UNC fan, I don't think that the allure of the UNC job itself- sans the sentimentality and the proud history of the program- is nearly as strong for people who are already at established P4 programs with tons of resources and support. That doesn't make it any less of a phenomenal job, mind you. It just may not be nearly as enticing for someone who is already in the midst of building a great program at another institution with tons of visibility and resources already. Unless they have some other sentimental connection to UNC, what can a Tommy Lloyd or a Dusty May accomplish at UNC that they aren't *already accomplishing* at Arizona or Michigan?

Henson wants family, talks Marcus Paige, mentions Jackie Manuel, and proposes Wes Miller...Watts mentions Stackhouse and King Rice. Both admit that the pressure is too strong to go outside of the family. It is a Hot Seat.

They both say that whoever the new coach is HAS to hire Carolina men on his staff.

They rag on dook players and students not knowing anything about durham. dook shouldn't be associated with the bull in anyway as well. dook is not The Bull City.

Entertaining. Henson hates dook -- Watts is from durham and of course he does too.

The flip side of this is that guys like Mark Byington or TJ Otzelberger conversely have a ton that they could accomplish at UNC that they likely can't or won't accomplish at Vanderbilt or Iowa State. IMO.

I agree about dook being associated with Durham, but the rest is pretty silly.
