Short turnaround week for the Heels who are probably still licking wounds 2 days removed from the opening game shellacking. On the road this Saturday In Charlotte at Jerry Richardson Stadium. Hot and humid all day with 55% chance afternoon thundershower. Vegas has the Heels a 13.5 favorite at the moment, but that could move. Over-Under is 49.5.

The Goons from Boone just beat the 49ers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte last Friday (Charlotte gets a full 7 days to prep; Heels only get 3.5 to 4 day's tops). App State man-handled Charlotte racking 586 yards and 34 points holding the Niners to 11 pts and only 218 total yards. Of course we well know ASU is no Chump change team these days.

Interesting that the football Gods gave AppSt the Charlotte game at Bank of America and relegates the Heels to playing a true road game on campus at UNCC (Sorry Charlotte - you'll always be UNCC). To me, that's a diss and slap in the face to the Heels.

Heels should be highly motivated to kick ass and take names on several levels this week. And the Heels should also be head and shoulders above Charlotte in talent and ability... and should win easily and cover the 13.5.

I say the Heels "should" win easily... but until Bellycheck Chapel Bill can prove he can coach at this level, I'll reserve some doubt.

UNC - 42
Niners - 17

UNC can't "just" win this game. We have to win this game big, and we have to look pretty damn good in doing so. Coming out and struggling to beat a bad Charlotte team would be another very poor data point. We have to be able to control both lines of scrimmage, take better angles on defense, and tackle the ball carrier much better, at a minimum.

The fact that this is a 13-14 point spread in Vegas is a little alarming. I think the Heels come out a little shaky on the road, at night, after a short week, and after Monday's debacle. I think Charlotte hangs around for a half or so- they’ve got several players who will most likely be extra motivated to play against UNC as former UNC players- but then UNC's superior talent and depth takes over.

Regarding the diss, we did a home and home with UNCC (played in Chapel Hill last year).
ASU and UNCC played in Charlotte because it was the Duke Mayo Classic game.

I agree with the others, but there are more UNC fans living in Charlotte than there are UNCC fans.
Agree about the "more fans living in Charlotte". But UNC should have never agreed to a "home and home" with UNCC. If there had to be a game at all, there should be one game only, played on "neutral ground" at Bank of America Stadium - UNCC could call it a "home game" for all I care. What's next? A home and home with WCU in Cullowhee?

Fair point.

Yeah I am stunned that we agreed to play in a 15,000 seat stadium on campus at UNC Charlotte. It honestly wasn’t even until fairly recently that I even realized that that’s what we were doing, I had assumed all along it was going to be at Bank of America Stadium.

With the exception of the years I spent in college and law school, I’ve lived in Charlotte my whole life, which is just about to be a half-century long, and I’ve never met a UNCC fan. I know people who went to UNCC, and most of them might get a little excited if a UNCC sports team gets a big win (which rarely happens) , but none of them care enough to closely follow UNCC sports.

We just moved to Charlotte this summer, and for myself growing up in the eastern part of the state and quite literally never ever having been west of I 85 in Greensboro until I met my then- girlfriend, now-wife in college who is from the Charlotte area, I had never even given a thought to UNCC because nobody I went to high school with even had it on their radar. Until I started coming to Charlotte I didn’t realize how big of a school UNCC actually is in terms of enrollment and how large the campus is.

Yeah, it’s a big school where one can get a quality education. I know a lot of very bright and successful people who went there.

But it would be an absolutely terrible school to attend for the college experience. Such a large percentage of its student body is from the area. Many of those students continue to live at home with their parents or rent apartments off-campus. Many of those who live in campus dorms go home for the weekends. Outside of attending class, there’s very little campus life. And it’s in a terribly designed part of town. There’s no neighborhood feel. There’s no college community vibe. The area is not at all pedestrian friendly. There are not many restaurants, bars, coffee shops, entertainment venues, etc., in the area that anyone would want to spend any time in. It seems like it offers a very forgettable college experience.

My wife and I once had a tongue-in-cheek conversation about if we were having an affair and wanted to take our side piece out on a date, where is the one part of town where we could be virtually certain that we would not run into someone we know. There are many parts of town where it might be unlikely, but the only part of town where we could be virtually certain is the University area because we don’t know anyone who would want to go up there for any reason. That very well may change, however.

To be fair to you, UNCC’s growth really ramped up in the last 15-20 years. I grew up in the Charlotte area and the school’s size and reputation is a lot different than it was 20ish years ago.

Ohhh gotcha, that makes a ton of sense. Yeah, I just feel like I never heard a single thing about UNC Charlotte growing up. Very few of my high school classmates anywhere other than places like East Carolina, Pitt County community college, a handful to NC State, and maybe one or two that I can think of that went to Appalachian State on the NC teaching fellows scholarship.
