With 40 freshman, how many transfers can we sign? 10-15?
Depends heavily on how many transfers out we have.

I'm guessing there will be quite a few, although I think we're currently something like 8 over the scholly limit with known commits while subtracting those out of eligibility after the season.

So as of today we expect to be able to sign -8 transfers net? Lawd have mercy.

Don't take that as gospel truth, but that's the number I read/heard from something I've read/watched over the last week while all this attention has been focused on us.

I just looked at our roster, we have 22 Grads/Redshirt Seniors/Seniors on the roster (who will have to move on) and we currently have 36 commits, which leaves us -14 based just on that calculation. I'm guessing there are some known "won't returns" that bring it down a bit more, but there's going to have to be a significant amount of turnover of the current roster just to get all the current commits on the roster along with even a few portal additions.

Given the incredible lack of talent all around, I'm hoping many current players transfer out.
So you're gonna have another season where there the majority of the team is in the first year with the program and have to learn everything anew for this program?

I'm not saying it can't work, but that's a tough way to try to build a team.

Oh, I agree. It's definitely a tough way to field a competitive team. But, if the majority of the current next-year-eligible players are playing a decent number of snaps next year then it's going to be another long season.

Against a harder schedule

It’s hard to get this going in the right direction especially with attracting high quality transfers if you don’t start winning. That’s why this first year was so important to show promise. We’ve shown the opposite.

UNC’s Belichick and Lombardi plan to remain

Amid a tidal wave of recent reports on the dysfunction at UNC involving head coach Bill Belichick and GM Michael Lombardi — including a report in The Athletic on the chaos and lack of familiarity with college football that critics say is hurting the program — sources in both the college game and the league say the duo has no plans to leave Chapel Hill. People inside the football operation believe the criticism is intended to hurt the program.

Belichick, who was on the road Fridayrecruiting in Olney, Md., has told those close to him that he loves coaching at the college level. More than that, he believes they’re building something meaningful at UNC, a program with staying power. Lombardi is fully on the same page.

However, Belichick’s NFL past continues to hover around this situation, from questions about his legacy to regular flare-ups involving the Patriots to suspicions within UNC’s program that some of the negative headlines have origins in New England. The Patriots have taken the high road, steering clear of the public sniping.

Belichick and Lombardi remain committed to Chapel Hill for the foreseeable future. And if the school feels otherwise, it would be costly: UNC would owe around $30 million if it wanted to buy out Belichick, Lombardi and their coaching staff.…”

Sounds like they have similar sources as @heel79

Ha. I don't have sources. Well, maybe a couple. I have simply said beware of Raleigh media. I just watched 90 secs of WRAL Pat on Dan Patrick. He was borderline orgasmic. Said he called UNC to confirm Caleb hood was still on team. Hour later hood posts his retirement meme. Now Pat wants us to believe something sinister. What almost certainly happened is his inside source called and said hood was leaving team. It makes sense. Fifth year senior. Playing time down. Battled injuries. Pat quoted part of the meme. But not the part where Hood thanks BB, Lombo and kitchens.

what’s fucked up about that is Hood was probably forced into coming out and making the statement when he wasn’t ready to yet. Dick move.

I’m glad to see that yesterday we returned to the form we were in two weeks ago. Those were our two best performances IMO, so that’s encouraging. If can we can continue that trend, we can avoid more losses.

Good. This is legitimately great news for those of us who want this embarrassment to end as quickly as possible (and I am someone who does not thinks that it’s realistic that this is going to end after this 2025 season). Belichick’s arrogantly stubborn refusal to acknowledge his massive Achilles heel in Mike Lombardi being our GM this offseason, is a great way to ensure that this debacle ends around Thanksgiving 2026. After this past week I was very worried that Bill was going to wise up and fire Lombardi. Now we get another season next year with 70 new players on the roster, but this time they’ll be 6 months removed from picking out their prom tuxedos playing against TCU, Clemson, Miami, Notre Dame, Louisville, Virginia, Pitt and Duke.

Of course they “plan to remain.” In addition to the cash BB and ML are making, they also have their kids on the UNC dole. Leaving voluntarily would be completely stupid on their part. They know a gravy train when they see one.
