I think it’s notable that you think we are specifically referring to just you.

And no, speaking for myself, I’m not looking to argue. I’m looking to be allowed to voice criticism of an adult professional coaching staff without it being implied that all we are doing is looking for negatives or it being implied that we are not a good fans.
Who is stopping you? I answered for myself. Can't answer for others. I am clearly one of those being referred to so I said ask. So ask? Or don't. You act stifled when in fact I would say you have more word in this thread than probably anyone.

Lol. I’m not acting stifled. I’m telling you that you and others who are indignant that there are those of us who aren’t blindly waving the pom-poms in support of Bill Belichick, need to grow up and accept that not everyone fans the way that you fan, and that’s okay.

Notice how almost none of their posts ever directly address the points that the rest of us are making lol. It’s mostly just complaining that we are too negative, but nothing substantive beyond that.
Oh fucking bullshit. I've posted plenty of critical items on this thread.

Saw our game at Wake Forest for weekend after next is a 4:30 PM kickoff. That game is actually going to be a really good litmus test in my opinion. Unless we come out and just absolutely blow the doors off of Stanford, I can’t imagine, given how bad they are, really learning anything of note this weekend. But that is a pretty solid Wake Forest team that is being really well coached by their new staff, and Winston Salem has never been an easy place for us to play. I’ll be really curious to see how we measure up in that one.

Assuming we beat Stanford, I really think you’ve got to win at least one of the Wake, Duke, NC State games and Wake looks to be the most gettable

I’d think @Wake we will be a TD underdog. We will probably be close to that line home against Duke and maybe -10 @State, depending how the next few games shake out.

Dang, you think that much? You know way more about the betting spread stuff than I do but that seems kind of high to me. I’ve also got the recency bias of having watched Wake Forest look absolutely awful against Florida State this past Saturday night, so this is why i’m not in that business!

I did not know that...

I do know :

2021- finished 10-3
2022 finished 11-3
2023- finished 9-4
2024- finished 10-4

and from 2015-2020 never finished outside the top 4

And as I said, he may be on the hot seat this year because Clemson fans will not be pleased.

That said, would UNC fans love to have that record dating back to 2015 ?
Of course, but that’s Clemson football, not UNC football.

Point spreads don’t move that much for recency bias. That same Wake team just beat SMU two weeks ago. And that same UNC team gave up 28 points to Clemson in the 1st quarter a month ago.

We don’t get to totally ignore past performances when predicting future performances. If the line were set just based on the last three weeks, we might be favored in all our remaining games.

But I also get future spreads wrong all the time. I was sure the TCU line would swing to UNC with all the pro Bill talk before the game. Nope.

And yet so many Tarpitters expect us to be Clemson football year after year and think if only we had the right head coach we would overcome our 100 year history of being a 7-5 football program.

I often wonder if Clemson basketball fans grouse and complain and say that there is no reason the Clemson basketball program can't be as good as UNC and dook** if only they had the right basketball coach 😄

I can appreciate your willingness to reach across the aisle so to speak. To be honest though I feel like that type of “optimism” from those posters crosses into being contrarian pretty quickly. I get it to an extent: the program has had a black cloud almost constantly hanging over it for ages now, and for some people it gets old hearing and seeing all the constant negativity from our own fans. They’re looking for any sliver of hope to use to shout down the criticism, even when it’s completely justified. My stance on that is don’t piss on my head and tell me it’s raining.
My stance, from the beginning, has been to give it time before making a decision. A few games is never enough, imo. If you think that is pissing on your head and telling you it's raining then so be it. I don't.

This is such an obtuse take. No rational UNC fan expects us to be on Clemson’s level year after year.

Agreed 100%. My personal expectation is for UNC football to be a perennial 8-9 win team with the ability to win double digits, and legitimately contend for an ACC title and CFP berth every handful of years or so. We almost always out-talent at least 75% of the teams on our schedule year over year, and often more than that. It would just be nice to consistently have records that reflect such, and then in the occasional year where the schedule and the talent *really* line up favorably, have a year similar to the one that Virginia is currently having. That should not be too much to ask of a program with the kind of resource we have, and located in such a talent-rich state.

Definitely possible. If that comes to pass, it would be very interesting to see how folks react after next year if we are, say, 4-8 this year and somewhere between our usual 5-7 to 7-5 next year. To me, that is not acceptable for the level of investment we've made into this staff. Heck, Mack Brown could have easily done both. In my mind, by hiring Belichick the expectation should have been 7-5/8-4 in year 1 against a very weak schedule, and 9-3+ in year 2 en route to establishing ourselves as an ACC title and CFP berth contender. We currently feel so far away from being a contender and I see no clear vision on how we are going to get there, because "we're going to bring in 40+ HS recruits next year when literally nobody else in the country would even contemplate doing so" ain't cutting it.
I agree. Next year needs to be a lot better, both on the field and in the W-L column, to keep me holding out hope.

I would enjoy discussing points. The issue is, the critiques aren't about schemes, play design, etc. They're about W-L. So, by all means, jump us off with a good discussion point.
