Some years we have losing seasons like this year and some years we win 8 or 9 games to balance it out and maintain our 100 year history as a 7-5 football program.

Don't worry too much about our stable 7-5 program and treasure every victory. Upsetting the wuffies on their home field would be a wonderful way to end yet another typically over hyped season.

Wonder if there is a chance we could get Chip Kelly as OC for next year? He just got fired by the Raiders. Would be a grand slam.

Here is an interesting tidbit from Kelly's Wikipedia page....it seems he has a prior association with Belichick.

"During the 2012 offseason, Kelly met with New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick to discuss how he operated the "blur" offense that Kelly ran at Oregon. New England had implemented the hurry up offense as early as 2007. Oregonian columnist John Canzano speculated that Kelly was waiting for the New England Patriots head coaching position to become available."

This is a good point. We were Icarus flying too close to the sun with those 8 and 9 win seasons that Mack gave us a few years ago, so it’s actually a good thing that we’re going to be a disgrace for the next few seasons under Belichick to balance out the win %. God forbid we ever try to get better than that.

Sure. Why not.

IC on3 predicting we will pick up at least 3 perhaps 4 recruits this week. Perhaps I should say favored to do so. Also we seek well positioned for two 4 stars RB who decommitted from Florida and DT who decommitted from Texas. This staffs ability to not only hold this class together but build on it has been impressive.

I'm thinking we should ditch BBBB and go after the next Dick Crum or young Mack Brown. I'm not confident that BBBB can get us to the occasional 9 win season.

But for 100 years we have tried "to get better than that." Please share with me how we can overcome our 100 year history and get better than that. As a proud grad of the class of '74 I would love for us to "get better than that"🥳

our AD was trying that before our dumbass chancellor and Preyer got involved. You know how dumb you have to be to do something the Atlanta Falcons and NYG weren’t dumb enough to do

Well for starters I would say we need to conduct a thorough coaching search and make a serious hire. Should be an obvious first step for any program looking to improve but for some reason we haven’t done that the last two times we’ve had an opening.

I know we’ve discussed big picture expectations for UNC football recently but I get that it’s a bit abstract, so I’ll use a more tangible example: NC State.

Nobody thinks they are anything more than a slightly above average program at best, but they have still been a clear cut above UNC for quite awhile at this point. That’s not even up for debate imo. Can we at least strive to be better than that? Give me one good reason why we couldn’t be.

all we need is an over-hyped coach who will demand at least 2 million per...unc fans will never learn
I hear you, but I'm just offering possible solutions to this current trainwreck. Trust me, I'd much prefer us to be done with this whole sordid affair yesterday. I don't think it's going to work out for us. But since we clearly aren't going to cut bait yet, I'd at least like to see us try to make it work by pulling out whatever possible remaining stops we might have, and since our offense is positively dreadful, and because Chip Kelly is known as an offensive playcalling mastermind at the collegiate level, I thought it worth asking the question.

no oc will be worth a fuck until we get talented players then you can take anybody off the street to coach them and they will have success. spend $ on players not coaches but hey its not our money right? ;)

Just saw that he's available. Kelly would be perfect - an NFL guy (required by BB) with considerable college experience.

Yep. Truly the only thing that I think might even have a Hail Mary possibility of this whole thing working out is for Belichick to hire someone to whom he is willing to completely surrender all control of the offense, someone who is able to call a modern offensive game in the year 2025 that does not look like it belongs in 1995. Chip Kelly would do that who knows if he even wants to come back to college, or even wants to continue coaching at all. He’s made a ton of money and is in his 60s now. He left the head coaching gig at UCLA because he was sick of recruiting, and then left the offensive coordinator gig at Ohio State to go to the NFL for reportedly the same reasons. So who knows if he would even want to come back to collegiate ball, but maybe if there’s anyone who could entice him, it’s Belichick. But again, it would require a complete surrender of all control over the offense.

i’m not a chip kelly fan, i think BOB or Daboll are probably the only chances for this to work (and it’s not going to work) but we’re already paying Freddie Kitchens 1.15 million and he’s truly incompetent

We are devoid of talent. I re-watched the game from Saturday to evaluate certain things I miss watching it live. Just amazing how many wiffs we had especially on the OL. I felt bad for Gio until I remembered how much money he is making. I don't think a professional QB could be much effective with our OL.

I know I am beating this poor horse to death but I truly do think we’re far more devoid of coaching and scheming than we are of talent, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Our composite talent ranking has us 31st in the country which, against this cupcake schedule, should easily have us bowl eligible and then some. Our transfer portal class was ranked 8th. I don’t think we are some ultra talented team by any means, don’t get me wrong, but we are more talented than most of the teams on our schedule. The coaching, game planning, scheming, and in game management are far bigger albatrosses for us than our raw talent IMO.

nah but i understand fans wanting to believe so called recruiting rankings. if any fans in the country should be gun shy about the bs involved in being over-ranked it should be unc fans. our ol and dl lines are bad my guy....like very bad but lets bring in more overpriced coaches and get the same results like we have for the past 20 yrs.
