If it’s anything like last off-season, any staff changes are going to be slow as molasses.

I’m pretty positive Kitchens will get the axe. Not getting my hopes up that the replacement OC will be appreciably better though. If Kitchens was really the best Belichick could do last off-season then no reason to expect he’s going to suddenly land a proven stud. Not like the aura around this whole experiment got any better between the time that he was hired and now lol.

Ben just said buzz building on Julian Walker, 4 star edge rusher who committed to Michigan. This guy has not been on our radar at all. Heels could flip 4 stars committed to Texas, FSU, Florida and Michigan if stars align. I guess we could also go 0-4.

Vodney signed with texas. But also in that flip-watch realm you could stick Jakob Weatherspoon since 4 months ago he was committed to OSU.

Just like several of us thought- we are dropping some absolute bags on the recruiting trail. It’s been confirmed not only by IC but also by the 247 and on3 national folks.

Still baffling that you'd drop the bags on HS'rs instead of mature, somewhat "known quantity" portal guys.

Edit - I wonder if the portal quality is drier this yr, less deep quality-wise, now that REV share is a thing

Hope the bags are still flowing in two years when we have a new staff that knows what to do in college football.
No kidding. Don just said on the signing day show that UNC is offering money to a lot of these guys that the other programs to which they were committed we’re not willing to match. That’s….definitely a strategy. Let’s hope it works.

While this is exciting, I hope we're prepared to have enough funds in the portal, as well.

If not, this has a "winning the press conference" feel to it.

The highlight "welcome" from prior gridiron tar heels has been cool. From old guys like Harris Barton to current pros like Javonte, like

Your second point is exactly what my exact fear has been for going on exactly 12 months now, since day one of this stupid experiment. That is all they care about.

It reeks of desperation. Also, something that would have been anathema to prime Bellichick. Just what a weird disaster this has been

I know it's one thing for stupid schmucks like me to be skeptical- I'm a nobody whose opinion is meaningless- but it's eye-opening to me that folks who cover this stuff for a living- Don Callahan, Greg Barnes, Jason Staples, Tommy Ashley, Buck Sanders, national writers, etc.- are also voicing skepticism about this whole operation. Just like all of us, those folks desperately want for this whole thing to work out well for UNC. The fact that they have reservations makes me feel a lot more validated in my own.

What's wrong with throwing cash at players?
a) That is what college sports is all about now. Players aren't going anywhere without some compensation unless they are mediocre. The well, the bell, the stone walls.... the banners or the coaching cachet are no longer the primary selling points for studs.

b) The cash-infusion was one of the biggest selling points of the BB experiment. Matt Campbell, or Sumrall or the next Fedora weren't going to get the $ promises that BB demanded for NIL, revshare. Regardless of the coach we hired last Dec it was going to take $ to potentially build us up to anything.
