I think you are reading WAY too much into some of Greg’s comments. I’d be extremely surprised if we don’t have a much better QB starting in 2026. We are clearly trying to get a strong QB.

I never said that I didn’t expect the staff to try and upgrade the position.

Edit to clarify my point: Greg explicitly mentions that the exorbitant cost of bringing in a top tier QB means that we are probably going to look into bringing in a player or two that can compete with Gio, Newkirk, and Burgess. I interpret that to mean that we more than likely will not be taking a big swing at a surefire starter on the level of Mateer like we saw last year.

I’m fine with that strategy, my point is that I just wish that if we are going that route that we had Baker as another talented player with potential in the mix of the competition

I fully expect us to take a swing at a sure-fire starter. Whether we are successful with that effort remains to be seen. Without a solid o-line to sell, I suspect it will be tough to convince a Mateer-level QB to say yes.
 
Heels just got kid named chuck Roberts out of Florida ( California kid going to private school.there) DB. Class of 27. Had offers from Florida Alabama Miami among others.

Anyone who does not have concerns about UNC football is either: (1) not a UNC fan, or (2) hopelessly optimistic.
 
Portal opens tomorrow. Strap up. IC story says 25 have declared and that there is no expectation many more will declare. IC saying expect Shipp and melkart back although neither signed. I think same thing happens that happened in bball. We kill the portal. Should be interesting next two weeks.

If 25 enter the portal, where does that put our current roster count; ie how many spots are available for incoming portalees?

By numbers currently known, I think we have room for ~5 portal additions.

But I'd be surprised if the number stays that low and that "roster spots happen" will lead us to a few more portal takes.

I think it's more than that. I reread Don's story. He has us at about 10 and more than that with additional portal entrants. Looks like BB and Lombo bringing in big freshman class was not a bad plan.

I will avoid quoting Don's story, but you're misrepresenting what he's saying. 10 is roughly the expected number given expected attrition. To go beyond 10 would mean unexpected transfers.
