Unless Petrino is a miracle worker, I see very bad things in store for 2025. If we make a bowl, Petrino should get Broyles award.
I apologize for being optimistic but we should be better at QB, TE, WR, same at RB. Online was bad this year. Could it be worse? Traded kitchens for a guy considered offensive gurus. I bet we average more than 19 pts.

We also are significantly upgrading our schedule.

LOL, yeah, points are going to be a lot harder to come by and mistakes will be penalized a lot more significantly. It cannot be overstated how awful our schedule was this year. A middle of the road college team and staff would have won 8 or 9 games against that schedule. A fringe Top 25 team would have likely run the table.

At least we kept Shipp. I was sure he was gone. Last year is done. Looking ahead.

I appreciate your optimism.

The biggest problem headed into 2026 is the O-Line. I hope the new QB is fleet-a-foot. I don’t see a Drake Maye or Sam Howell at QB; an Omarion Hampton or Javonte Williams or Michael Carter among the RB’s; who ARE the stud pick-ups at WR?; TE - sure, the O$U TE group was stacked; our transfer had 13 receptions over 3 seasons; the transfer from TX played in 9 games over 2 seasons and had 7 receptions.

I’m hopeful the bulk of transfer portals are good. We need them to be.

We will see. I think QB will make difference, petrino, we lose nothing if note in WR and bring in some talent in portal and frosh. Dare I suggest that I believe this staff, now somewhat acclimated might coach them up as well.
I think there are things to he optimistic about.

Hope you are correct.

We’ll begin to know in Ireland.

It feels like Bunting after year 2. I knew how the story was going to end, I just didn't know when.

We’ll upset a team on a FG to go 6-6 and make a shit bowl. As a result of the meaningless upset, we’ll keep a failed coach (4-8 and 6-6 or 7-5 is failed for this coach and staff).

We’ll keep John Bunt……oops, Bill Belichick and pass on hiring a Steve Spurrier.

Duke's Mayo Bowl?

I Hope Please GIF

As of now, pending any other commitments,
I’d say that the net grade of this year’s transfer portal haul taking into consideration both ingress and egress is probably around a C. We kind of did almost exactly what I was worried about in emphasizing stars and “name” and potential over productive experience, but I suppose I have to just trust that with a full year at the collegiate level under their belts, the staff got a lot better at talent evaluation. I do like some of the guys we’re bringing in- I like the production of the LB from Richmond, and I like the size of some of the OL and TE in particular. I think we downgraded a bit on the DL in terms of productive experience, and I don’t think we have yet brought in enough instant impact type OL. I don’t think we landed- or seemingly attempted to land- the “big game” at QB that we were told the staff was planning to hunt. So overall I’d give us a C/C+ in the portal, which seems about right for a class currently ranked 7th in the ACC. With the schedule we’re going to have we are going to desperately need for the staff to have hit it out of the park in evaluation and hope that an inordinate number of the guys who are coming in with limited experience and/or previous injuries exceed expectations.

I have to say the level of negativity on here Is really incredible. Comical really. Just say the same thing over and over but with different words.

You’ve got to stop this, man. Nobody here is being overtly negative or negative for negativity’s sake. You’re just mad that everyone isn’t waving the Pom-Poms. I’m sorry, I’m not going to do that- ever- no matter who the coach is. We went 4-8 last year with a 6-time Super Bowl winning head coach who is paid $10M and received an unprecedented level of financial investment and a veritable blank check to hire any staff he wanted. Our roster management strategy continues to be baffling. What do you want any of us to say?

I understand that you have a type of fandom that makes you want to reflexively cheer for our coaches. I have said countless times now, and other people have said as well, we admire and respect that. You are entitled to it, of course. We are also entitled to speak our minds and voice our concerns. We are allowed to question our $10M head coach. We are allowed to point out that the staff is inexplicably bringing in inexperienced players. We’re allowed to say that the schedule next year is extremely difficult, and that it’s very easy to envision us not having a very good record.

In particular, what about the commentary on this thread caused you to make that comment? Seems to me like everyone is being completely reasonable and civil in their responses.

FYI..I wrote that before your post but it posted after. It doesn't matter. At this point I am truly amused. In the posts above your zoo predicts a repeat of the hunting years. Someone says mayo bowl and the response is not that good. It's almost like a race to see who can most cleverly paint the future in the darkest shade.

Guarantee that the vast majority of people on any forum discussing UNC football are going to be critical of the current situation. You can think it’s comical but the reality is that you are the outlier in this situation.

I hear ya. I’m not trying to be combative- I promise. I like you a ton as a poster. I just feel like you don’t want any of us to comment about our current football situation unless we can do so glowingly. I admire that you are so optimistic and that that’s your method of being a supportive fan. I think it’s great. I just think that the rest of us can also express doubt, concern, frustration, etc. and it be equally acceptable. We all want the same thing: a strong Carolina football program. We just happen to have different ideas for how to get there.

UNC and its boosters are paying Bill Belichick $10 million a year. His BFF, Mike Lombardi, our GM, who NO ONE in football, college or pro, wanted to hire, $1.5 million/yr. At least two Belichick’s on the assistant coaching staff. Who was clamoring to hire them?

Did anyone hire away or attempt to hire away a single person on Bill Belichick’s staff?

I hope UNC didn’t pay $10 million/yr to the head coach for 4-8…….and the 2026 schedule is more difficult.

UNC shouldn’t have paid $10 million/yr to Bill Belichick for a long, slow rebuild.

Yea. Y'all are the outlier in the world though. But yea, that is probably the nature of message boards I know as you can imagine a ton of UNC food, went there so college buddies. BTW, lumbers love the Heels. I see and hear nothing like I do on here. But I am being serious. I felt a need to pushback at first but no longer. I'll.bringbwhat I know here and share. IC is same in hubert. Guy averages 25 wins a year and is 14-2 and we need to fire him now. Wonder what Dean would think about that? I say let's play the season. I got to go buy a car. Check in later.
