I think Doeren has Mack's number. Doeren knows very well that his most important game each season is the UNC game, and that his job security depends on consistently beating UNC. And so he makes sure that no matter how mediocre State is the rest of the season that the Wolpfackers are ready and fired up to play and beat UNC, and they invariably play their best game of the season against us. It wouldn't surprise me if Doeren starts planning for the UNC game at the start of the season. And meanwhile Mack seems to treat the State game as just another game on the schedule and dozes through the game and happily shakes Doeren's hand after Dave hands him his ass yet again. And when Doeren plays to his State base by insulting and ridiculing UNC's football program Mack's only response is to cry and whine at press conferences about how undignified and mean they are. Until UNC gets a coach who is as fired up for the rivalry as Doeren is we'll likely continue losing most years to them, imo.
Tom O'Brien apparently started prepping for Carolina around mid-season because he was well aware how important that game is to the wuffies...and it paid off as he went 5-1 against us (and got fired after finally losing to us in his 6th year).

I wouldn't be surprised if Doeren is doing something similar. There's one way to have relative job security in Raleigh and that's to beat Carolina. And losing to us regularly is the easiest way to be looking for another job quickly.

So after getting home and watching other games, I have to say this is the first time I've ever truly felt like i didn't care at all about the outcome of a UNC game. I cheered when good things happened but I didn't get mad when things went badly and I never once thought we would win. I don't know what this new phase means but it is very odd.

I thought about liking this post and decided I couldn’t “like” it despite agreeing with it.

I remember laughing when JMU went over 50 points in the first half. UNC football is laughable.

Why though? I don't care that much about college football...grew up a UNC fan after all...but I am curious why the program has such an overwhelmingly mediocre history?
Because the people who fund UNC sports don’t demand excellence in football. They are satisfied with a fun Saturday tailgate six times a year. Football is just a quaint traditional fall diversion at UNC, and that has been OK for 75 years. But the finances around college football have changed in the last 15 years and that impact on all of college sports, revenue and non-revenue sports alike, has upset that status quo. I have no idea how that future unfolds, but it seems to me that UNC will react to that change rather than leading it.

Mediocre conference, mediocre money invested, below average schedule every year. Insidecarolina is best/highest traffic sports site in college sports and the writers get everyone believing every year the team is a ‘dark horse’ playoff team and people drink the kool-aid so everyone is not happy with a 8-4 9-3 record.

Going to be even tougher now to market and get excited about a season since the coastal is gone. It was the easiest divison to win in the major conferences so every year was exciting to watch the tie breakers and race for the division title. Now you have to be one of the best 16 teams in the conference to make the ACCCG.

The coastal was an absolute joke. In 2015 when we won the coastal, I don’t think there was another coastal team that finished in the top 50 at the end of that year. We are now seeing how mediocre we are with the divisions gone and we had two amazing qbs.

We will make a big name hire. We will pay big money. Mack will resign after the last game.

I’m struggling to come up with a big name hire we could realistically get, I guess the Urban rumors always float when any school is looking for a big name, but I can’t see that happening for a lot of reasons. Who is out there that’s a big name? Jimbo?

No telling. Could be an NFL OC or former coach. Could be from another school. I don’t even mean to say it will be a home run hire, just a big name hire to sell tickets.

I used to go to games even when we sucked just to support the kids, but no longer will I go when we suck because they are paid professionals now and I know empty seats is the only thing that will force a change.

I hope he’ll resign after the last game; I worry Mack loves money too much to resign.
Ask him to retire and pay him a few million a year to be the UNC ambassador of football. He can glad hand the donors and do some fundraising events. Visit the NC high school coaches to promote recruiting. Maybe be a color man for the UNC football radio broadcasts...

That's horrible. And I feel like UNC should be picking up his medical tab instead of him needing a gofundme, but maybe I'm missing something on what's allowed.

I agree.

I guess if UNC paid for his medical care, it could affect his future eligibility. But it does seem that there'd be a way to figure it out.

The gofundme is for travel expenses to go out of state for (presumably experimental) care. Unfortunately, he may not get that chance.

I think he has insurance for most of the UNC hospitals care.

Blaske’s father posted on the Tar Pit that colleges handle medical expenses differently. Like he had some out of pocket charges for football related care.

Couldn't he just get a NIL deal from someone to pay the hospital bills? I am sure there is a way to make that happen now since it's pretty much whatever goes in college sports.
