Will be interesting to see. I don't trust our administration to push Mack out if we were to, say, win out and beat NC State to finish 8-4. I also don't trust that Mack will walk away voluntarily yet before hitting 300 wins.
He’s going nowhere if that happens.

Yeah I tend to agree with that. Only way would be if Mack voluntarily decides to hang it up, but if we finish on that kind of wind streak, and knowing how close he is to 300 wins, I have a hard time seeing him walking away.

I think a lot of the lack of absolute chaos from the fan base is because everyone is assuming that Mack will step down at the end of the year.

If that doesn't happen, I would expect all heck to break loose with people making their feelings known to the AD.

Your choice of the word "heck" is very telling vis-à-vis the Carolina fan base...

If we win out, beat NC State (who has owned us) and go to a bowl game I am in the camp of keep him (with some coaching changes).

With all due respect, that's ridiculous. We beat Uva because they didn't come to play. That doesn't make Mack an effective coach.

We aren't just losing games. We are getting blown out by teams that should not blow us out. We are losing in ridiculous games. We gave up a TD run when Tech was trying to run out the clock. I'm not sure I've ever seen that before. What's next? When the QB tries to take a knee we just open the middle for him to run through instead?

There is no way that Mack is going to do better next year. So if you want to keep him, this is the team you're going to get. And if the schedule is harder, it's going to be a very long year with serious wipeouts.

But seriously. There's something to be said for avoiding embarrassment. Getting blown out by James Madison should never happen. That has made UNC a joke. A season in which we go to a nothing bowl and give up 70 to a team that's been FBS for like 2 years is terrible.

A few thoughts here.

First, Mack Brown is gone after this season no matter what happens with the rest of the schedule. I’m not going to pretend like I have super close connections to the football program, but I do know several people that either used to work for the team or played on the team that are all still close to the program, and all 3 of them have independently told me the same story that it was decided behind closed doors after the JMU debacle that Mack was done after this year. All of the people on premium IC that would know are also alluding to that as well. Obviously nothing is for certain until there’s an announcement, but at this point it’s an open secret. I would be genuinely shocked if he is our coach next season.

Second, as much as I am over the Mack 2.0 experiment and am ready for the program to get a fresh reset, yesterday was awesome and I desperately want the team to finish the season on a high note. The players have been through a lot of hard times both on the field and off the field losing a teammate and I would love it for them personally if they turned the ship around. It would also be a good thing for the program to have some momentum for the next coach. A fair bit of roster turnover is probably healthy at this point, but there are still a lot of talented players with eligibility remaining, and it would be much better if they see some success this season and don’t all decide to jump into the transfer portal after the season.

Can we discuss how beautiful those throwback uni's. Who in the hell decided to change those and put argyles on them to boot? Jfc

We had one bad loss. JMU. We are not getting blown out by "teams". Every P5 game this year has basically come down to the wire except UVA. Pitt did beat us by 10, but that game was tied in the 4th Q and was not a blow out. There is plenty to hate on Mack for JMU (and especially prior years) -- no need to exaggerate this year's results.

The Pitt and GT games were blowouts that we got lucky to make look closer than they were. SP+ has both of them outplaying us by better than two touchdowns with postgame win expectancies even better than JMU's, though that's somewhat weighted by JMU being a G5 team. Even Minnesota should have beaten us by more than a touchdown according to the level of play. This team has been unnaturally charmed and is still abjectly awful outside of a game against a UVA team with an OL basically entirely composed of backups.

Pitt and GT (with a healthy Haynes King) are considerably better than us this year. Minnesota (especially with a healthy Darius Taylor) is also better than us this year. Despite that, we kept all three games closer than we deserved to.

Which gets to my point. JMU is really the only BAD game we have played this year. But make no mistake, we are not a good team. And that was a point I made louder than most during the preseason. Everyone was talking how weak our schedule was (and that is completely true) while ignoring how weak we were.

That said, the QB play has been a pleasant surprise. If by some miracle the UVA version of our defense were to show up in the last four games, it should provide a nice ride into the sunset for Mack.

You were absolutely correct in the preseason and I was absolutely incorrect.

I think we mostly agree if you're saying we've played more or less to what the expectations should have been preseason. I was expecting 5-6 wins and we're basically on schedule for that.

FSU has a truly putrid offense this year. Have not scored more than 21 in a game this season, averaging less than 300 yards a game. Which just sets it up for them to have a get right game against a UNC defense coming off their best game of the year.

In part it will depend on whether FSU receivers will decide to catch. They have a huge number of drops this year. If that continues, it will be hard for FSU to win. Plus, the stadium will be completely empty.
