UNC Football - on the road to nowhere

Wait, Carolina was actually good in football at one point in time?
The title of the thread is "on the road to nowhere"
You don't have to BE from SOMEWHERE to be on the road to nowhere.
You can come from nothing and still be on the nowhere highway.

Nick Saban walked away for a reason. Dean Smith, Bill Guthridge, Roy Williams, even Coach K……WALKED AWAY (mostly).

JoePa and Bobby Bowden didn’t and sunk their programs.

Septuagenarians such as Mack and Belichick wanted the attention, fealty, AND money and UNC was stupid enough to give both has-beens HUGE contracts…….back-to-fucking-back…..as if one wasn’t enough!
Joe Pa was 131-64 (67%) in his 70s and 80s. His overall record was 409-136-3 (75%). I'd gladly take a JoePa in his 70s patrolling the UNC sidelines (minus the pedophilia).

Bobby Bowden was 97-44 (69%) in his 70s. His overall record was 377-129-4 (75%). I'd gladly take a Bobby in his 70s at UNC.

The fact that the vast, vast majority of coaches decide they have had enough of the grind does not mean that an old coach cannot coach. Roy likely would have done better than Hubert over the last five years. K may or may not have done better than Scheyer (he did make it to the Final Four in his last year after all).

I don't think being old is helpful. Both Bowden and Joe Pa lost their fastball in their last few years. But being 73, in and of itself, is not an insurmountable burden to success. Never coaching in college football and being arrogant about what you don't know and can't do is a bigger problem.
