Yep. And ND absolutely bends things for football.
I know a guy-about 50-went to ND. He worked PT as an academic counselor. He refused all athletes because he knew from his fellow advisors that meant writing their papers...........

It is not about the cursing itself. It is about learning discipline. The same way that Dean punished anyone who was five seconds late to practice (If you are not early, you are late). The most successful athletes (Jordan, Lebron, Brady, etc) are incredibly disciplined.

I am pretty neutral on the no cursing rule. But it is important for a coach to instill rules for a team to follow. That is an important part of building a winning culture.
I agree that the rule in a vacuum probably isn’t a big deal. Your point then begs the question: is Hubert actually effective when it comes to instilling discipline in his teams?

Through 4 seasons I think they’ve looked locked in focused during the 2022 run and 2024 regular season. Outside of those stretches I’ve watched a lot of sloppy basketball. Turnovers, poor shot selection, and frankly a lot of games where they look mentally disengaged from the tip.

All evidence to date points to Hubert being a poor coach.

Of course, Tony Elliot was a very poor coach until this year. So, hope springs eternal.

I'm sure you don't mean it but that comes across as so incredibly pretentious. And it's not true.

Well, maybe you're right, I don't know. I'm just coming at it from the point of view that I've heard a lot of players and their families talking about their religious faith, and dropping curse words a lot isn't really a stereotype of those kinds of families or the behaviors they try to instill in their kids.

I curse a lot myself, so I'm not trying to moralize. I'm sure we've had a lot of exceptions, but I do think a lot of our players in the past have fit the "choir boy" kind of stereotype.

Well, enough about the fucking cussing bit. I’ve already said I learned to speak English in Europe from a load of fucking Englishmen and I really don’t give 2 shits about how anyone uses the f-bomb or pretty much anything else. And as far as Hubert being a shitty coach, well that’s a matter of opinion - and an opinion I won’t really argue with that much. I just don’t think his “no fucking cussing rule” has kept many recruits away. Nor do I think it caused RJ to have one of his worst shooting nights of his 5 year career against Alabama in the 2024 Sweet 16 game. (For fuck’s sake, the little shit went 4-20 and missed all 9 of his 3 pt attempts). It must have been because Hubert made him run sprints the day before during shoot around because he said “damn” after missing a practice FT.

I think the bigger story to discuss now might be about the Stanford business… mother-fucking cheaters!

But before we totally leave the cussing bit, a little anecdote:
I was an assistant boy’s basketball coach at a middle school in the 1990’s. The head coach was an old black man who was funny as hell. Meadowlark Lemon mixed with Richard Pryor funny. Every once in a while he’d let a “damn” or a “shit” slip out at practice or maybe in the locker room at half time of a close game. But he wasn’t cussing all the time or anything like that. No f-bombs or anything.

The rumor was that one day, Coach “Smith” got called to Central Office for a closed door meeting with the Superintendent.
Super: “Coach, I hear tell that you been cussing the players in the locker room”
Coach: “Me?! Cuss? Get the fuck outta here!”

This is disingenuous. Nobody is claiming we lose games because players can’t cuss.
Of course it’s disingenuous, I was being totally facetious. I’m not claiming we won or lost because of cussing or not cussing… and I never claimed anyone else said that either. Total sarcasm in my part. Perhaps I didn’t get that across very well.

Do we have any shot or are we just blue blood window dressing?
