UNC Women's Basketball 2025-26 Season | Heels will host

Yes, we would play them in the S16. Would really like to see us win the two games at home to get there. But I really do think UConn will thump us good.

Really hoping Banghart can get us over the hump and back to contending for top seeds; we've looked like a solid but low-upside program since she's been here.
this season has shown some reason for optimism imo - one of the youngest teams in CBB, lost like 70% of last year's production, and she's primed to make it back to the S16. i was worried that she was hitting a plateau after last year but she's genuinely shown me something this year. the offense is pretty much the best she's ever had (ranks a little worse than the 2022 team but the difference is basically made up for by '22 being a much better free throw shooting team, and this team has been 75+% at the line since conference play started) while the defense has remained elite. and any concerns about player development have been pretty well answered this year with how much Ciera Toomey and Indya Nivar's games have grown, not to mention Lanie Grant and Elina Aarnisalo getting much better from the start of the year to now.

they're going to have to make it to that UConn game for all that to actually mean anything, though. and Maryland is going to be particularly juiced up given that they were trending for the host spot that we ended up taking

I think I saw the rumor floating around a while back that if and when there is a new men’s basketball arena UNC, the women are going to out of Carmichael and play their home games in the new arena. Feels like that would be a very shortsighted move from a ticket selling and crowd standpoint. Even for the most premium of games at Carmichael each year, the Duke and NC State games, there are empty seats. And that’s in an arena that seats, what, 5000 or 6000?

fwiw the vast majority of schools have their MBB and WBB teams share a stadium, and most of those have a curtain for the upper bowl that comes down for WBB games to help give those games the atmosphere of a smaller stadium. it's not perfect and Carmichael is obviously special but it's not like they'd be playing in front of 12,000 empty seats.

Two things I suspect
1. Two arenas have too much ovehead
2. Courtney "dreams " of having 15,000 fans

I have heard that as well and wondered about the rationale. There are other sports programs that play in Carmichael . Are the PTB's planning to do something with Carmichael unrelated to sports ?

I would hope not honestly-just for overhead cost reasons
but I have no clue

IIRC, Women's Gymnastics and Wrestling also use Carmichael. I can't imagine that it'd get torn down nor can I imagine that it'd be used primarily for something other than athletics.

I have no earthly idea why our women would want to play in the same arena as the men. They have something special at Carmichael.
I assume they would hope one day to have 12-15,000 fans ?
Every other angle favors having their own arena?

Women's basketball is a hard watch for me. I love watching women play golf, tennis, soccer, lacrosse, softball, field hockey, etc. But a typical women's college basketball game to me looks like mem playing underwater. The lack of athleticism is what stands out. That said, I have seen plenty of good high level women's game. The gap between thee top teams and even those in the 15 to 25 range is a problem for the women's college game. Big talent disparity. One if the top 2 or 3 women's team always wins it all

good win for the women last night, suffocating on D. they'll have to be more accurate against Maryland tomorrow at noon, hopefully got all the 3pt misses out of the way shooting 10/40 against W Illinois
