Uninsurable homes. North Carolina is listed as a state where people's coverage is being dropped.

Indeed. We had coverage with Kemper, combined Auto and Home. We were informed early last year that Kemper was leaving the state of North Carolina and our coverages would be dropped. My insurance broker had to help us and we scrambled to find something in Pennsylvania. But they wouldn’t do a combined coverage as our house was so old, built in 1921. But we found two separate companies to give a similar coverage for similar premium prices as what we had with Kemper. But I hated losing Kemper. They were the best! great coverage and very reasonable premiums. But alas, insurance companies are leaving North Carolina.

I get mad at how much my homeowners Insurance is
Until I think about how much it would cost today if a damn tree cuts through the house

Funny thing is they wouldn't pay to remove a tree that could be in danger of falling but would rather wait and pay more if it falls on your house. Same thing with health insurance not willing to pay for preventive care.

Yep, had this conversation last week with a neighbor down the street who had a crane removing 2 dying trees. Cost $5k. I joked that he was spending $5k to save his insurance company $175k

Capatilism. There is a price where insurance makes sense but voters don't want to pay it and some homeowners can't pay it. So the insurance commissioner trys to negotiate a rate that will keep as many insurance companies as possible in the state and solvent and providing insurance to people.

A few insurance companies leaving or coming back year to year isn't bad and might be a good thing. If everyone is staying, the insurance commission might be letting them gouge us. But too many leaving or the best ones leaving is a sign we are not willing to pay for properly insuring the risk.

Yeah we had Kemper too. Sucked to lose that. We are with Farm Bureau now
