It's more or less hilarious to see the big bad strongman Trump sitting there with the president of an insignificant country as equals. Notice how the list of leaders who support Trump not only come from evil regimes, but pathetically weak ones? Here's a list of Trump's friends:

Milei in Argentina (worst performing economy in Latin America for a long time, save possibly Bolivia).
Bukele in El Salvador (tiny nation)
Orban in Hungary (the leech of Europe, Hungary produces little of value)
Russia, as we all know.
Kim Jong-Un, the leader of one of the poorest countries in the world (in terms of actual living standards of the people).

Nothing says, "I'm so powerful and strong" like hanging out all the time with a bunch of losers. Literally.
I agree with you, but I told you that this is what he was going to do when you were doubtful. Your only mistake, if any, was assuming that we would get anything approaching logical, rhetorical, or political consistency from Trump on this issue. Anyone with a brain can see that "The US government has an agreement with El Salvador to deport people to a prison there, but it's impossible for anyone to be returned once they go there" makes no goddamn sense, but much of the country in fact doesn't have a brain and Trump is happy to contradict himself over and over - logically, factually, and legally - because his audience doesn't care.

El Salvador doesn't even want to return him. Sucks to be on the side of a losing issue

El Salvador doesn't want to return him because Trump doesn't want him returned. If Trump actually told El Salvador to return the guy he would be back here in a snap. We know hacks like you are dumb enough to buy this kind of Kabuki theater but it remains to be seen if the Supreme Court is willing to indulge the obvious lie that El Salvador has agreed to take deportees but has no ability to return them. Leaving aside that anyone with a brain and/or conscience should find it chilling that the government can deport someone without due process in a manner that prevents their legal rights from being vindicated if the deportation is found to be without justification. You're just the kind of credulous idiot who (1) doesn't care because it's a brown person, and (2) is dumb enough to think that the same thing couldn't be done to a citizen like you if the Trump admin felt like it.

The US has no authority to bring the guy back and El Salvador has no authority to send him back. What a pickle he finds himself in. Absurd.

Trump also told the President of El Salvador that he needs to build about five more prisons to house "homegrown" American citizens who will be shipped there. So American citizens who have been arrested and/or convicted will soon be deported to a prison in a foreign country despite all of the protections supposedly guaranteed US citizens in the Constitution and generations of laws passed by Congress. Is there nothing that Dear Leader does that you won't support?

Let me answer that for him:

No.

Well, I try to remember that the future is not written. Otherwise it's really easy to fall into despair, especially for me. It's not that I give Trump the benefit of the doubt, so much as not having the bandwidth to process not only the shit happening now but the shit that might happen in the future. I mean specific things from the future, not general predictions (which are important for planning and preparedness!).

But the cost of that, perhaps, is what would appear from the outside to be excessive optimism..

Isn’t Trump a homegrown criminal? He should be the first one deported

When we get the presidency, I think we're going to have to start rounding up MAGAs and throwing them in a hole, just so they can appreciate the danger. If it happens to them, maybe they will think twice about it. Maybe.

Trump is NEVER going to let Mr Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia out of the Gulag.
By releasing Mr Garcia would be admitting Trump was wrong, which is something Trump never does.
All this for Trump vanity.

I don't think it's about admitting he was wrong. In this case anyway. I think it's because Team Trump wants everyone with last names like Abrego Garcia to leave the country out of fear this could happen to them.
