No surprise, but just more evidence that he really is fucking insane, out of his mind, unhinged, and drunk with power now that it is clear that our system of checks and balances and separation of powers has simply broken down. We'll be lucky if don't find ourselves in a serious war within the next year or two, or perhaps sooner.

Trump Orders Blockade of Sanctioned Oil Tankers in and out of Venezuela

The president’s announcement further escalates pressure on country’s leader, Nicolás Maduro

“…
A military blockade is considered an act of war, but Trump’s move appeared to stop short of a full blockade. It appeared to exclude Chevron, which has been operating in Venezuela and exporting oil under a license exempting it from U.S. sanctions that Trump renewed this year.

On Tuesday, a Chevron spokesman said its operations in Venezuela were continuing without disruption and in compliance with the law.

By targeting sanctioned vessels, the U.S. could be sidestepping prohibitions on economic blockades under international law except in response to armed attack.…”

I saw the notice about Trump addressing the nation tomorrow night. Seems like it would have to be about either Venezuela or the 2020 Election.

According to Ku Klux Klannah Montana he’s going to wax poetic about all the accomplishments of his second term. 🙄

If that's all he's doing then he could easily just have texted it while sitting on the toilet around 1 AM like he does most of the time. If he's just going to brag on himself then I guess he's feeling down and needy enough to have to go on national television to get his ego boost. I do wonder if he won't include some kind of "surprise" though, either about Venezuela or something else. At any rate I have no interest in watching any of it, I'll just read about the highlights (or lowlights) here on the ZZL afterwards.

Is Trump Referring to Chávez’s 2007 Oil Seizures

That is what I was thinking.

Obviously this is an overreaction to that but what Chavez did was clearly wrong and robbed companies of their investments. It is also an easy way to guarantee no more foreign investment in your country.

Lots of countries nationalized their oil industries in the 1960s and 1970s. Whether it's "wrong" depends on your perspective. People in those countries often feel as though they are merely reclaiming what was taken from them by Western imperialism. I don't know much about the 2007 expropriation. That's at least half a generation after the nationalization wave stopped, and by 2007 a lot of the expropriating countries were starting to hire with private companies because their operations were inefficient.
