Well, yeah, people ARE fixated on the POTUS declaring we “run” Venezuela now and subsequent reporting that the U.S. Secretary of State/(Acting) National Security Advisor/US Archivist will run Venezuela for the Administration.

...our demands for oil and lithium.

It's a tell. They disagree with what Trump says, but that cognitive dissonance can't stand, so he must have meant something else. Then when Trump re-confirms he meant what he said, they get rid of the dissonance by changing what they believe.
And it works because Trump has no ideology, just transactions (deals). Otherwise, Trump would never attempt to make another Communist in S.A. a puppet.

Perhaps Marco is getting policies he wants. But there's a long way to go from actually having success with this Trump/Rubio gunboat policy they got going. At some point, there may be boat loads of Cubans and Venezuelans headed for the United States when chaos results from their non-existent day after policy. It will be interesting how they go about handling that.
I don’t disagree that this may produce severe downstream consequences. My point is that Rubio isn’t operating on an electoral or reputational time horizon anymore. He’s acting to lock in irreversible regional outcomes now, even if they later generate instability or backlash.

So, the question isn’t whether this creates suffering or blowback. But are the people who bear those costs part of Rubio’s constraining constituency? South Florida exile politics and donors reward confrontation, not stability, and refugees themselves have never meaningfully constrained U.S. policymakers. For Rubio and his donors, there’s simply no downside where it actually counts.

I do wonder how the constituency politics works for him, since I was just reading about how he misrepresented when his family came to the U.S. Or according to him he was repeating family lore. His family actually came here in 1956 well before Castro. So by all logic, he should be viewed by that community with suspicion.

That’s not how the south Florida Cuban community works. The story is more important than the reality.

IMO, Rubio’s personal timeline is irrelevant. He’s passed the exile community’s loyalty tests for years by delivering confrontation with Cuba and other socialist governments in Latin America.

Just curious why you say that about Rubio since some people are saying he will be on the Republican ticket? I have, since the first time he appeared on the National stage thought lowly of him. But I don't have much to base that on except that early on in his appearance on stage he was known as an incompetent at managing his own finances even coming close to bankruptcy. I assume that problem has disappeared. Perhaps he figured out how to monetized his recent political offices to cover his personal deficits.
I consider it more wish casting. Of all in the administration he has fallen the farthest from respectability and I think it is easy to assume he is doing a fair amount outside the law at this part, from his redirections of Congressionally designated funds to being the seeming point man on this abduction. It's a lot of: "enforcement of the law is in the hands of those who hold power;' I am just hoping someone responsible takes control in the US and goes back and cleans up these messes in a way that gives future perpetrators second thoughts.

Yes, the single greatest challenge i have in not judging someone solely based on their ethnicity are Cuban Americans. Without fail, they blow my mind with their own racism toward anyone Hispanic and not Cuban and their insistence that 330 Million Americans should risk everything for the redemption of that island nation. They really are something else.

What is the number 1 thing to look for in the next week or so? Well what can't happen is to turn the country over to the opposition. Because that will mean that Trump can't have his corruption deals on the oil.

Therefore, the number 1 thing to look for is whether the current government agrees to be a Trump puppet government or some version of that. That's the only way this turns out for Trump. If not it shouldn't take long for Congress to suddenly take an interest in what Trump is doing. (well you would think).

LOL. MAGAs arguing that we're not taking Venezuela for its oil clearly didn't see Dear Leader's press conference in which he very clearly said just that, among other outrageous things. They can't even keep their story straight on this one.
US companies will pay for it thereby benefitting Venezuela. This will trump the interests of Russia, China, Cuba and Iran. The VP likely has agreed to this in exchange for remaining in power.

The VP has agreed to nothing. Where is this idea coming from that Trump is "letting" her stay? He wanted a TV moment. He got one. He has no interest whatsoever in Venezuela from this point forward. I mean, he still wants policy wins to make him feel big, but he will have not a single clue about anything happening in the country.

He certainly doesn't have a clue what is happening in this country.
