Look-In: Games in Blacksburg are no picnic. Hokie-town is no fun. Virginia Tech is 13-16 and 8-10 in the ACC. They are a moderately good shooting team hitting 36% from Three and 45% overall (UNC is at 35% and 48%). Backcourtmen, Rechsteiner (#7, 6-1, 7 ppg, 3 apg), ex-dookie Schutt (#2, 6-5, 8.4) and Jayden Young (#3, 6-4, 7.7 ppg) combine for 125 of the team’s 377 turnovers – overall the Hokies commit a miscue as often as they assist on a basket. (VaTech is 15th in that category and Carolina is 4th) London Leaper Tobi Lawal was out the past two games but should be back with his 12.5 ppg and 6.9 rpg (he’s 6-8). Also on the frontline is Mylyjael “Pronounce My Name” Poteat at 6-9 outta Reidsville averaging 9.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg and shooting an accurate 55% from the field. The three young guards (all sophs) Rechsteiner, Schutt, and Young all shoot the Three by far the most on the team and Schutt and Young do so accurately. This is the youngest team in the ACC. The one old man Ben Burnham plays steady (6-7, 7.4 ppg and shoots the three a couple of times a game) and could be a pain. Freshman wing Tyler Johnson (#10, 6-5, 7 ppg and 5 rpg) can be trouble too. Birthdates for the Hokies are uncommonly obscure and only a few were located. We’re leaving them be.
Frontcourt: Washington has good physicals and great energy– Lubin matches and exceeds that status. Claude is a smart guy and Brown is strong.
Wings: Positivity typified both Powell and Jackson is physically tuned in. Cade Tyson is also on the athletic and positively primed beam. Withers’ agility is high.
Guards: Cadeau is middlin’ and R.J. Davis Einsteinian while Trimble brings a dynamo to the court.
Overall: Carolina is positively charged for this one though the Intel lags (save that of R.J. Davis). Physically Lubin, Jackson, Powell, Withers, and Tyson have the goods. Washington is also at the 50 mark. Emotion and ‘want to’ are dominated by Washington, Lubin, Powell, Tyson and a soaring Trimble. Testing the ball handling of the hokie guards ought to happen from the get-go – and would tone down the rabid nature of the turkey fans at the same time. To Press is Imminent. There’s no reason to think this won’t be a hard-fought contest. Tech coach Mike Young is cagey and will likely throw in the kitchen sink tonight – they head to Sub Carolina and the meat grinder that is Littlejohn for their final league contest. Expect a battle. Las Vegas calls for a 7.5 point UNC victory. Carolina’s is the driver of their fate in these times. The Biorhythms agree with the margin.
