Wake County high school graduations

Any other parents have a high school student graduating from a Wake County school? My son graduated yesterday. The graduation ceremony was at the Raleigh Convention Center. They also have a few for the smaller schools at Meymandi Hall and Memorial Auditorium, but the large majority of them takes place at the convention center.

Of course the main thing is for the students to enjoy the graduation and have their moment. However, the setup at the convention center sucks for those who come to attend the graduation. All the seats are on the floor, and the stage was too far away to really see well. They did have big screens set up to see things better, but that kind of defeats the purpose of being there in person.

I guess the schools stopped having their graduation ceremonies at their football stadiums so they wouldn't have to worry about the heat or rain. When I graduated from my high school in Durham we had it at Cameron. I know Chapel Hill/Carboro schools have theirs at the Smith Center.

I was just thinking it would be better if Wake had them somewhere that had elevated seating so at least everyone could see the stage. The Lenovo Center would be awesome, but I guess they would have to work that out with State and the Hurricanes. Maybe even Reynolds Colloseum would work, but not sure how the parking is there. Dorton Arena at the fairgrounds could be an option, too.

I'm shocked Wake does things at the convention center still and not the RBLenovPNC Center. It really makes no sense.

All of Orange does the Dean Dome, Alamance and Guilford at the coliseum.

My high school was our stadium way back when... But we also have a huge bank for overflow seating. I think that ends up being an issue. When you have thousands more coming than a football stadium can seat...
