Did he fire his shotgun or pistol? Or both?

There would have been no doubt if he'd fired a buckshot round. The sound of a shotgun is not going to be mistaken for a pistol. I also doubt the 9+ pellets in the round would all be lost or able to penetrate a vest. My guess is a pistol if he fired at all.

Have they said whether or not the victim was shot with the same caliber handgun?
