WH Correspondent’s Dinner - Trump evacuated, shooter in lobby

Please stop with the “staged” discussion. Speculating about that with zero evidence is not only not helpful, it’s harmful. The Trump admin openly does so much obviously deranged and idiotic stuff that it’s not necessary to speculate about even crazier stuff. Just plays in to the BS social media conspiracy mindset the right has carefully cultivated.

If we get some evidence it was staged, by all means go hog wild. Until then it’s irresponsible to talk like that.

Bingo. Not on same scale but I always laugh at idea we did not land on moon. Amazing that thousands of people have kept that secret for 57 years.

I wonder to what extent Trump’s bully personality shapes the decisions of the security detail. I don’t think there’s been a president, in the modern era at least, that prioritizes appearance versus substance like him. If he wants the event to look a certain way, I don’t see security concerns changing his mind.

I don’t actually think it was “staged” in the sense that it was some grand pre-meditated scheme. I think that the administration is obviously shamelessly attempting to use it for a political boost- to no avail, it would appear- but no, I don’t think it was actually some false flag staged event, nor do I think Butler was. But it’s fun to give the Trumpers a taste of their own medicine.

The big takeaway from this should be why is the president’s security so fucking bad. How are all these nutters able to get this close to killing the president of the United States?

Not wasting much time on this other than to imagine that not that many people care...perhaps not even as many did when Fromme and Moore made their moves. I doubt there were very many people that wished death on Ford despite his pardoning of Nixon...little did we understand that move would set us on a path toward the unaccountability from which we currently suffer.

All of that said, the degree and nature of public reaction to this will be some sort of indicator. No doubt a great many people who in increasing numbers come to realize that trump is a fake and habitual liar with zero allegiance to truth will naturally imagine this to also be part and parcel of his schtick. There is something to the "Fable of The Boy Who Cried Wolfe" I believe.

To me, the question is more whether the second would have gotten any attention and whether this should have been stopped earlier. Where did he come from that he could have been carrying multiple guns and knives and get that close unnoticed? Surveillance cameras and personnel should have spotted him a lot sooner than they did.

I agree with the admin cartoonishly attempting to exploit it for their benefit. Much different than calling it staged like multiple people have done on this thread. And this on one instance when I do t think giving ram and the rest of the doofus brigade “a taste of their own medicine” is helpful at all. When this stuff circulates on social media plenty of people start to actually buy it. Which is how we all end up paranoid and even more hopelessly at each others’ throats.
