When was the last time you wrote a check?

I have not written a paper check in over ten years. Is this typical for folks on this board?
 
Very rarely. I wrote a family member a check as a wedding present over a year ago, but I did it last second because I hadn't got a gift. That's the last one I remember. I have paid help around the house in checks but not in a while.
 
Two Thursdays ago at Tom Robinson’s Seafood in Carrboro.

Probably written 225 checks there in the last 5 years.

They don’t take credit cards. I often spend $100 and I like to “husband” my cash.
 
Almost never write checks. A few months ago, my wife and I finally ran out of checks that we bought probably 10-15 years ago. Didn't bother ordering any new ones.
 
I believe I wrote one last year. I always have to find the checkbook. The checks i have are so old, the address on them is for the house we lived in 11 years ago.
 
Interesting story. Wrote a check about 2 months ago. Earlier in the season on one of the UVa boards someone was offering 4 center court tickets for a UVa hoops out of conference game for $20…total. At first I thought it was a scam so I messaged the seller and it ended up being totally legit. But the guy was like 80 and asked for payment by check. He was one of those white haired big $ donors who couldn’t get to that particular game…my wife looked up his address on Zillow after we mailed the check and it was a $2M+ house.

No idea why someone with those resources didn’t just give the tickets away versus asking for $20, but whatever. I guess a lot of wealthy people stay wealthy for a reason.
 
Two weeks ago. I had to have some dental surgery and the periodontist offered 8% discount for payment upfront by check, 5% if you used a card, and no discount if they had to work out a payment plan.
 
Wife ordered a rug/runner from India, got here just a little B4 xmas, UPS has two guys (maybe due to busy season, one plain-clothes).
Plain-clothes guy rings the doorbell and says I need to pay $41.37 to receive the item, and the payment-on-delivery documentation for was sparse on details Seemed like a scam, so I grilled him and the uniform guy for a second and we conclude it's a toll due to f'ing tariffs.

Anyway, he'd only take a check and my wife wasn't home.

41 dollars! I didn't ask my wife how much the ugly rug costs... Don't want the argument after my uncontrollable eye-rolling.
 
I write one every week. I’m self employed and my business bank is different than my personal (SECU) so I pay myself with check. The SECU is right out my back door so inconvenience there.
 
Three weeks ago. Paid a guy who cut down three pine trees that were leaning towards the house.

That's usually about all I write checks for ... Service work stuff
 
I still write a handful of them every year. I live in a smaller town so I tend to use local folks for services like HVAC, plumbing, tree service or such, and if you use your credit card, the credit company tacks on some ridiculous percentage surcharge which they pass on to you. So I've learned that's where checks come in handy. Every so often I'll still see someone write a check at the grocery store, and I don't think I've written one there for 30 years or more.

I saw someone write a check in Costco a few months ago. That woman got the most hateful stares from everyone.... Including me
 
I have to write one today for a student refund. Occasionally we need to refund someone and they have closed the account they used for payment when they registered. We cant refund a different card than the one used for payment so that ends up being a check.
 
About a month ago, someone came over to clean a carpet. He recommended paying him by check, so I did. Before that, I’m not sure.
 
DMV last week
They charge somethingerrather upcharge on cards
Maybe the second check in 5 months

Next time you are there check out the painting on his wall. My wife painted that and gave it to him as a gift.

I think I remember my grandfather talking about "checks".

I wrote one a few years ago. I don't remember why, but I remember going to the bank and getting a couple of counter checks.

I haven't bought a book of checks in probably 20 years.
 
About 9 months ago when I had to have a plumber do some fairly minor work for me and he doesn’t take credit cards. Fortunately, I keep my checkbook in one spot in the months or years between uses, so I knew where to find it quickly.
