I still write a handful of them every year. I live in a smaller town so I tend to use local folks for services like HVAC, plumbing, tree service or such, and if you use your credit card, the credit company tacks on some ridiculous percentage surcharge which they pass on to you. So I've learned that's where checks come in handy. Every so often I'll still see someone write a check at the grocery store, and I don't think I've written one there for 30 years or more.
