The U.S. Is Actively Seeking Regime Change in Cuba by the End of the Year

After ousting Venezuela’s leader, the Trump administration is searching for Havana insiders who could cut a deal to end Communist rule

“… The Trump administration has assessed Cuba’s economy as being close to collapse and that the government has never been this fragile after losing a vital benefactor in Maduro, these people said. Officials don’t have a concrete plan to end the Communist government that has held power on the Caribbean island for almost seven decades, but they see Maduro’s capture and subsequent concessions from his allies left behind as a blueprint and a warning for Cuba, senior U.S. officials said.

… In meetings with Cuban exiles and civic groups in Miami and Washington, they have focused on identifying somebody inside the current government who will see the writing on the wall and want to cut a deal, one U.S. official said.

… While the U.S. hasn’t publicly threatened to use military force in Cuba, Trump officials privately say the brazen raid that extracted Maduro should serve as an implicit threat to Havana.…”

I am just going to remind the Trump Admin, which seems very pleased with (or very pleased to hint hat having) an alleged new sonic weapon, that they called the Havana Syndrome the “Havana Syndrome” for a reason. It may be unrelated to this alleged weapon purportedly used in Caracas but is supposedly the basis of it. And someone in or with access to Havana apparently has had one for a while now.

If the Cubans stand firm then Trump, after much huffing and puffing, will likely back down and come up with some bullshit way to declare "victory" and move on to something else. He's already done this several times in his trade wars (TACO Trump) and now with Greenland, once Denmark and the EU made clear they weren't going to back down and stood up to him. He's the classic bully - lots of tough macho talk and swagger but nearly always backs down when confronted with force.

Counterpoint:

Cuba’s economy is in free fall now, the U.S. takeover of Venezuelan oil distribution is disastrous for Cuba and others in the Administration have personal stakes in this.

Trump may well TACO out but there is an underpinning for a more organized, sustained effort in this case.

Why would the Trump Regime end communist leadership in Cuba?

All it did in Venezuela was abduct the Communist leader of that country and replace him with the Communist Second-in-Charge.

I don’t see much, if any, of Cuba’s leadership willingly undermining the government in exchange for a bunch of American-Cubanos coming to rule Cuba.

Depose Communists in Cuba for a shot at returning Batista-esque Cubanos from Florida?
