But it isn't pure capitalism out there. So much government handouts, tax laws, etc. No such thing. Same as pure socialism. They do all love capitalism, well, until they need help.
At least in my part of the world - Raleigh - but in most places from what I gather... Look at the increase in restaurants. Where once shopping centers had stores, they are now half filled with eateries, starbucks, donut shops. etc. And many relying on lunch time crowds. Hell gas stations now are becoming eating destinations. If they settled for the same performance from cars, houses, TVs, appliances and such and used the same electronics without phones and computers as then, their lives would be a lot more affordable. Cut back on the gourmet foods ,exotic wines and liquors, air travel and vacations that the middle class didn't have at the time and you could come close to living in that style or better.
You wouldn't like it. Could I point out the a lot of increased costs of living since that are not inflation but what people are buying for the "same " purposes.
Hey, no argument here.If they settled for the same performance from cars, houses, TVs, appliances and such and used the same electronics without phones and computers as then, their lives would be a lot more affordable. No, "handouts" are not socialism. That's vulgar socialism and what we've been indoctrinated to think is socialism. But it isn't pure capitalism out there. So much government handouts, tax laws, etc. No such thing. Same as pure socialism.
Will see. Would love to see if you can show me any country that runs a "pure" socialistic or capitalistic economic system. No, "handouts" are not socialism. That's vulgar socialism and what you've been indoctrinated to think is socialism.
I've been thinking about starting a socialism thread. Maybe I'll do it soon. But I don't respond other than on weekends. And that half-assed. We'll see.

Apparently you're not the only one tuning out..Haven't watched a minute of TV news since the election. Read my news feed with a bit of existential Sartre nausea but don't really give a crap. Similar to how I currently feel about UNC football really.
Voila - the operating model for Fox News and the right-wing media machine. Note the date on the article as well. In fact, I'd assert that tu quoque is central - almost crucial - to most MAGA political discourse these days. You know one thing I've noticed. The right constantly plays the: "The Left is doing it too" game with trump and his negative speech.
They never defend him or try to defend that he didn't constantly divide and speak negatively about everyone that didn't bend the knee to him.
In the end that just doesn't work when comparing the administrations and the campaigns. The campaign of the left was 1000 times more civil. The right can't and doesn't even try to defend trump and his four year campaign of negativity.
How does one defend a presidential candidate making fun of handicapped people or calling veterans suckers and losers?
Then there's the insanity of the Weave response.
Like this example, where he never actually answers the question. Instead, he turns it to his favorite subject, big crowds.
"Frank: (00:01)
John McCain, a war hero, five and a half years as a POW, and you call him a dummy. Is that appropriate in running for president?
Donald Trump: (00:11)
Okay. Let’s. You got to let me speak though Frank because you interrupt all the time, okay? No, I know him too well, that’s the problem. Let’s take John McCain. I’m in Phoenix. We have a meeting that is going to have 500 people at the Biltmore Hotel. We get a call from the hotel, it’s turmoil. Thousands and thousands of people showing up three, four days before, they’re pitching tents on the hotel grass. The hotel says, “We can’t handle this. It’s going to destroy the hotel.” We move it to the convention center. We have 15,000 people, John, the biggest one ever bigger than Bernie Sanders, bigger than… 15,000 people showed up to hear me speak, bigger than anybody, and everybody knows it.
Or this:
On July 18, 2015, then-candidate Donald Trump said this about John McCain: “He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
On March 19, 2019, President Donald Trump offered this assessment of the late war hero and senator: “I was never a fan of John McCain and I never will be.”
Or:
After the second attempt on his life, Donald Trump accused his political opponents of inspiring the attacks against him with their rhetoric. The reality, however, is that Trump himself has a long record—singular among American presidents of the modern era—of inciting and threatening violence against his fellow citizens, journalists, and anyone he deems his opposition. At a campaign event on October 31, Trump said of former U.S. Representative Liz Cheney, “She’s a radical war hawk. Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, okay? Let’s see how she feels about it ... when the guns are trained on her face.”

Here are 40 instances in which the former president incited or praised violence against his fellow citizens.www.theatlantic.com
It's interesting how easy it is to find material where trump spoke negatively about people. But the right hangs on a gaff by Biden, because there isn't equal material. Trump was and is 1000 times worse.
But I guess some posters will just claim it's all been debunked because it's not what he said, it's how you listen.
This should have ended Trump's political career. It should have, but the MAGA cult is a morally bankrupt group of slack jawed marks. I consider most of them to be traitors. Fuck 'em.On July 18, 2015, then-candidate Donald Trump said this about John McCain: “He’s not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured.”
There are so many moments from 2015 to 2016 that should have ended Trump's political career - I always refer back to him mocking and ridiculing a reporter with a physical disability in 2016 at one of his campaign rallies. If any other presidential candidate, ever, had done that then it would have been over for them, and there would have been national outrage. And it didn't hurt him at all. He does get a pass from half the country that no other presidential candidate has ever gotten - I really do think he could, as he has bragged, shoot someone in broad daylight and he wouldn't lose a vote. Future historians, assuming we survive Trumpism with our democracy and nation intact, are going to write volumes on the psychological and sociological aspects of Trump and his followers. I still remember back to poor Howard Dean in 2004 screaming at a rally and how that ruined his candidacy. With Trump it wouldn't have even been a blip. This should have ended Trump's political career. BYAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!I still remember back to poor Howard Dean in 2004 screaming at a rally and how that ruined his candidacy.
My wife quoted someone she heard on TV, “Fans of the losing team don’t turn on ESPN after the Super Bowl.”Apparently you're not the only one tuning out..
MSNBC’s Audience Sliced in Half as Viewers Flee Post-Election
The flagging cable network's prime time viewership has dropped 50.7% since Election Day, while CNN's has decreased nearly 40% The post MSNBC’s Audience Sliced in Half as Viewers Flee Post-Election appeared first on TheWrap.www.yahoo.com
Howard Dean’s yell made him comic fodder; but, he’d pretty much banked his presidential run on a big night in Iowa; he expected to win; instead he finished third. There are so many moments from 2015 to 2016 that should have ended Trump's political career - I always refer back to him mocking and ridiculing a reporter with a physical disability in 2016 at one of his campaign rallies. I think that's about right. I also think there's a lot of shock among Democrats that have been watching folks like Maddow say some things they believed so passionately and was rejected so soundly by an awful lot of Americans. My wife quoted someone she heard on TV, “Fans of the losing team don’t turn on ESPN after the Super Bowl.”
I imagine MSNBC and CNN ratings will lag until Trump gets into office. And then they will pick up significantly.

Support independent media folks!I'm done with CNN and most media.
I got so sick of the reporters being scared to call out a lie.
Also, there was so much talk about Biden's age, then when he dropped out, there was almost none about trumps.
They kept sanesplaining all of trump's bullshit.
