So with the big holiday sales hitting, we figure it's time to get a mesh system for our home. Costco has a good 6E system at an awesome price. But I am honestly ignorant as hell on this stuff to know if 6E is fine for many years or if it makes sense to spend more now to get a WiFi 7 system. I mean I know 7 has more capability than our ISP provides. Is it just throwing away money or does it make sense?

On a related note, it's absolutely wild how fast you can feel overwhelmed with technology as you get older. I am all good on AI - use it often with work. Phones etc fine. But it's impossible to know all facets of tech and how much each area changes so rapidly.

Get a mesh system. 6E will be fine. Heck I'm still using my original Google Home system that is probably 10+ years old and is plenty fast. When buying technology know that whatever you buy is going to be outdated the moment you take it out of the box.

I love technology, sometimes a little too much for my wife. We have a 4000 sqft, 2 story house, so I've looked into getting a mesh system and actually decided on the eero 6 at one point. The problem is, we don't really need one. Our modem/gateway is on the second story, so we get good coverage everywhere in the house including on our back patio where we stream to a TV.

Do you have issues with wifi coverage that a mesh system would fix?

6E is more than sufficient for the typical household for at least the next few years. What's the price difference?

Hardest lessons I have every had to learn and relearn are: 1. The cutting edge newest stuff I am never going to understand how to use it fully. 2. Technology that is 5 to 10 years old is fully adequate for all my needs. 3. I have never purchased anything that was too old/outdated. 4. I have purchased stuff that was so new that it never became the standard and was a complete waste of money. If any doubts my ineptitude, I actually purchased, in 1988, MS-DOS 4.0, an alleged multitasking operating system.

$100 (might be $50 depending on the deals on Friday-Monday).

We are definitely getting a mesh system. Most of the house is fine - we need some outside reach (and we know we need a router when fiber is available later in December)

I have three Eero pro 6's that are hardwired via MoCa adapters, and it's been fantastic for three years or so. I highly recommend having any mesh system hardwired either through ethernet or MoCa, it makes all the difference in the world in providing stable, consistent performance.

I have FIOS with a high-speed router. What kind of improvement could I expect connecting a mesh system?

But not really worth spending more ($100) for 7 over 6E?
Nevermind - the 7 is very entry level and is only dual band. Not gonna do that. Will go with the 6E.

I have an older mesh system, and it still works great.

Would highly recommend them. I'm not up to date on the latest tech as I am not in the market, so I've not been looking.
