CLASP and PLATE are two of the six words the Wordlebot gives a score of 99 as starter words.

I was surprised — it has stuck with PLATE for a while. I use Wordlebot’s starter word and measure my performance against Wordlebot, minimum goal to tie Wordlebot (which I do a solid majority of the time, but when I don’t tie, I underperform against Wordlebot about twice as often as I beat Wordlebot).

It usually takes me a week or so to adjust to a new starting word — I have to remind myself that I used different letters than before, which slows me down a bit. I try to finish the puzzle in less than 2 minutes (goal is 90 seconds or less after entering the opening word).

Switching starter words always takes me a few days to get used to it. But I don’t really think of today’s solution as a common word (probably my location bias or something).
