I've worked hard on myself to relieve my anxiety while driving. Being more mindful about the fact that getting my blood pressure up only hurts me and the fact that I only have so many fucks to give and others inability to drive really doesn't deserve one of my fucks to give.

But I still notice things.

This morning traffic is moving pretty well, I made it to work on 32 minutes, which is good. But there were several people who seemed to require very substantial distances for breaking. I counted five, that as I passed them they were looking down at their crotch. Being that Georgia is a hands free state, if I were an officer, I would write dozens of tickets each day to people on their phones, allowing traffic. It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

I moved in Feb 2024 and for me the biggest reason was my commute. From about 40 minutes in the morning and 50 minutes in the afternoon to about 15 and 20 minutes, respectively. It has been a godsend for my mood.
If Hegseth wants to blow shit up to feel manly, he should start with people driving on the highway looking at their phones.

For five years I had a two mile commute to work, I so miss that commute.

I really don't understand, I basically never have something so important that I need to look at my phone while driving.

I don't commute anymore since I'm retired but I found out yesterday that one of my pet peeves still lives. I moved over to let a truck on to the bypass yesterday and despite my signal to get back in my original lane so I could take the next exit, the asshole still tried to speed up and cut me off.

I work remotely and don’t think I’ll ever go into an office full time again, for those very reasons.
I used to drive 30 minutes in the morning and an hour+ home in awful traffic 5 days a week just to sit at a cubicle and do the same shit I can do from my home office. Never fully realized how soul crushing that was until Covid happened and I went fully remote.

I would be open to a hybrid role in the future, but I can’t imagine going back to commuting full time for a desk job.

At different times in my life I have been able to walk or bike to work...glorious times, absolutely glorious. The best was living in Greensboro and having a 10 minute walk through forest and an old cemetery to get to work. Now I am again driving, including a several times a year down and back, Asheville/NYC, of which I am growing weary but see no end in sight. Living part-time in NYC and driving here has taught me a few things but I'm still not a hornblower and I still wave at people that I meet along two-lanes just in case I might know them.

I live relatively close to my office and have a few different routes I can take to get there, which is nice. Morning commute to work is typically 10-15 minutes. Evening commute home, if I were to leave between 5-6:30, can be 20-25 minutes.

Back in 2020, when almost no one was going into work due to Covid, I would ride my bike to the office. It was awesome. I practically had the roads to myself and I didn’t really have to look presentable most days so it didn’t matter if I got all sweaty on the bike.
