i don't drink zero calorie sodas but i do drink olipop - low calorie soda.

they have a bunch of tasty flavors.

I'm down 20 pounds since switching to the zero sugar drinks. I think the Mountain Dew taste the most like the regular sugar drink. What others rate high with you on flavor?

My wife buys zero sugar Sunkist and it tastes pretty good. But I've tried to quit all of them since they told me I was diabetic. Got my A1C down from over 13 to 6.4

The first time I lost 100 pounds, it took an entire week and I was on my back in a hospital bed. When I expressed surprise at this development and told the doctor had had not gotten on a scale in the past week, he gave me "the look" and said, "There's a scale built into the bed." I was on an intervenous diuretic.

The second time I lost 100 pounds--it was actually 160 pounds and I have gained back 20 in the following 5 years--I kept a log of every single thing I ate for three years along with a calorie-in count on what I ate. I also kept a calorie-out count on my daily exercise. The weight loss and calorie deficit were not an extra match, but they were pretty close.

The whole calories in minus calories out calculation was a refreshingly brisk slap of my face by Reality as to why I had gained so much weight. It wasn't genetics. It wasn't the food companies sabotaging their foods with sugar and fat. It was just me eating too much and not exercising enough. Pretty banal simplicity.

Don't count out the food companies. They actively seek processes for making cheap food that leaves you wanting and eating more. That's part of the reason they put sugar, which is addictive, in basically everything.

I did the same thing about 25 years ago. Lost 20-25 pounds for free.

But I have scaled way back on diet sodas. I had stopped for about a year then started back. It is a bitch of an addiction.

That is one reason I cut way back. Apparently the sweeteners fool your body and can trigger insulin resistance.

My numbers have been between one point under to one point over the pre-diabetic cutoff (5.6-5.8).

True. The gas station I go to for my fountain drink, was out of Coke Zero, so I got Coke for the first time in months. It tasted too sweet for me!

When it can be found Vanilla Coke Zero is the closes in taste to the Coca Cola taste back in the day. Diet Coke is awful.

It's harder to find but Cherry Dr. Pepper Zero is solid. Coke Zero is pretty good too and tastes much closer to regular Coke than Diet Coke.

What’s the difference between Diet Coke and Coke zero?

They have a different taste profile. Also use different sweeteners.

Coke Zero is the closest calorie-free version close to the original Coke taste profile.


I'm partial to Coke Zero (we're lucky to have Coke Zero in glass bottles, have some in my bar fridge), but will also go for Diet Dr Pepper as a change up. My favorite light drinks are the Aquarius Lemon and Orange drinks found in Spain. Kind of like a low calorie version of their Fantas (which are some of the best soft drinks).
