How does libertarianism propose to run the country at all? You still haven't (that I have seen) proposed a way to balance the rights of one group against the rights of others because there is ALWAYS a conflict.

You say "you have the right to live your life as you see fit as long as that doesn't infringe on my rights" but plenty of people see it as their right to dictate how others live their life. How does one balance that without infringement on what one group sees as their rights?
Give me an example....

I suggest Zen read altoheel’s comment detailing the New Hampshire town’s utopian libertarian experiment. Read the article as well Zen.

Now imagine a country as large as the U.S. trying that idiocy.

There is a reason why dozens and dozens of Democracies around the globe - of all stripes - have not engaged with the libertarian mindset as a primary source of government, or lack thereof.

There also a reason the other main third party we have here out performs the libertarian party in elections. Doesn’t the Green Party actually get a higher % of votes, small as it is?

It originated in the mid 1800’s as a left-wing anti authoritarian movement.
The right-wing has taken it over in the U.S.

Libertarian capitalism would be a nightmare.

Give me an example....
Ralph sees it as his right to carry firearms on his person at all times yet those in public are threatened and fearful of him doing so, particularly in situations involving large crowds, etc.

Yeah, it’s “generally pretty basic” because it’s a bunk ideology that was invented by right-wing economists to convince rubes like you that you’re supporting freedom by letting billionaires and corporations run our country.

...and giving them a bong hit to make it all go down nice and easy. Plus Doritos and Classic Rock!!!!

Mark Zuckerberg says Biden officials would 'scream' and 'curse' when seeking removal of Facebook content

The Meta CEO said on a podcast that administration officials had asked the company to remove certain posts, including "things that are true."

.........

"Basically, these people from the Biden administration would call up our team and, like, scream at them and curse," Zuckerberg told podcast host and comedian Joe Rogan. "It just got to this point where we were like, 'No, we're not gonna, we're not gonna take down things that are true. That's ridiculous.'"

I would guess most people who are politically aware read Atlas Shrugged sometime between age 16-21, flirted with the notion of libertarianism but then grew up.
I could barely stand to finish Anthem. I wasn't reading anything longer by her.

You telling me the guy responsible for the largest data harvesting operation in history has no recordings of this widespread phenomenon?

Bull. Shit.

It seems Zuckerberg wasn’t being completely truthful. He’s working hard to curry favor from the worst person in the world.

Zuckerberg is who he's always been - a man with no real moral compass or conviction, which is why his politics largely resemble a reed blowing in the wind. He is desperate to avoid getting lapped by Musk in the battle to steer Trump's policies in the manner most beneficial to his social media platforms, so he would probably plant his nose firmly in Trump's asshole right now if Trump cared to ask.

Leaving aside that you should be skeptical of these secondhand stories Zuckerberg is relating (it's not like anyone was directly calling him and screaming at him), Imagine thinking it's some great affront to liberty to have someone from the government call you on the phone and yell at you. We live in such a privileged place in this country that people have forgotten what tyranny really looks like (and, for that matter, what war really looks like). Headed straight down the cliff to fascism because all these technocrats can't imagine anything more terrible than making a few billion dollars less every year, and all the people lapping up their products can't imagine anything worse than being told to wear a mask or get a vaccine or, like, change to a more energy-efficient lightbulb.

It's all about what's best for business at that moment and what ever way he can make more money.

Do you think it's appropriate for the federal government to call Facebook and tell them to censor the speech/expression of Americans?

I don't.

Do you have proof that's what happened? There's evidence that it was about connection issues. As usual, there is no reason that you've given so that your view is to be considered realistic.

If the government believes that it's in the national interest to do so, yes, absolutely. Especially because they were asking, not telling. No one was threatening to thro Zuckerberg in jail and shut down Facebook if they didn't do what the government said. You know, actual censorship.

There is a long history of the government asking for things to not be published, or taken down, when it impacts our national interest, especially national security interests. Think wartime reporting. Obviously the government could go too far in that regard, and 100 different people might have 100 different opinions about what is "too far." But the idea that random bureaucrats calling up Facebook and trying to get them to take down content that the government believed was making it more difficult to fight a novel pandemic is emblematic of tyranny is just ridiculous. And that's even leaving aside that, as detailed above, there's good reason to doubt Zuckerberg is telling the truth about the stuff anyway.

What kind of proof would you expect me to be able to provide?

I’ll quibble a bit — the government didn’t tell Facebook what to do but they did ask them to moderate content on certain topics, which Facebook declined to do in a lot but not all cases.

When the requests related to COVID disinformation, I thought it was reasonable action during an international pandemic. When it related to the Biden laptop, I think the government should have done nothing more than inform the platform if they thought the story was credible based on available information.

The 100 different opinions, along with the obvious power differential between the two parties, are a couple of the issues. The federal government "asking" for something is significantly different than any other entity asking.

There's also the fact that Facebook is a platform where people converse. Facebook is not a news outlet. News outlets probably welcome information from the federal government. News outlets want to provide accurate information.

As it relates to COVID, which is apparently part of what the federal government request were related to, I think the Biden administration made it pretty clear that They were willing to be dishonest and try to cross lines under the guise of "national interest". I'm referring to the attempted use of OSHA to force vaccines on ~80 million Americans and the CDC's attempt to baselessly write off the lab leak possibility.

I think Zuck's interview noted that the government went beyond censoring covid misinformation. He talked about how they wanted to limit people discussing things like there could be long term side effects of the vaccines and maybe you should weigh the risks vs the risk of covid death. That's absolutely true and its absolutely not helpful to the government's plan to deal with the virus.

I think asking Facebook to shut down this information is okay but asking them to shut down discussion on government policies, probably isn't.
