Off-Topic Axe the ZZLP - Home office chairs

May not find that price but I bet listings pop up quite a bit in the city. As transient as this place is for families/individuals and as much corporate office space as is being condensed and consolidated, probably a lot of second-hand inventory. What are the best online local marketplaces for...

Ha fair enough — it’s more the context of posting histories and styles for both of you, more so than the particular details here. You both tend to go very big and staunch with your language and positions, that’s what elicited a chuckle from me 😁

Ha, both true to form 😁 One proclaims “no thoughtful person ever,” the other counters “not one iota…” It’s a clash of the zzl sweeping-absolutes titans! I’m here for it 🍿🤓

Off-Topic What should I do with my DVD's?

Nobody. They’re still in a box. I moved a couple dozen of them over to a hard drive back then because I was traveling a lot and it was much handier than carrying dozens of discs around. Need to dump them though. Or most of them. Some have really nice packaging/booklets and will be hard to part...

    Politics RIP Pope Francis

Speaking of Conclave, here’s an even better and just as fitting movie to watch. Fictionalized to some degree, but based on the relationship between Benedict and the man who would become Francis. Outstanding movie. https://www.netflix.com/title/80174451

How is Handbrake still around as free software?? I used that to rip DVDs like 15 years ago.

    Politics RIP Pope Francis

Excellent movie, and at least a bit underrated. A good time to rewatch it. And I’m sure the machinations have been ongoing and probably picked up quite a bit during Pope Francis’ illness. I just hope the pendulum doesn’t swing back the other way, which I’m thinking it might.

That, plus I’d guess most thoughtful and reasonable people already assumed myriad forms of life were out there, and eventually the science would substantiate that assumption (whether in our lifetimes or not). I guess that’s why this doesn’t “excite” me all that much. Though the science of it...

    Off-Topic Stock Market/Investing/Fin Planning Catch-All

Not sure what you mean by “how you buy them…” Through a standard retail brokerage/investment firm like Schwab, Fidelity, etc. that offers 3, 6, 9 mo terms and beyond, with rates that appear to me to be locked in for the term. And no, there would be no need to access those funds ahead of the...

    Off-Topic Stock Market/Investing/Fin Planning Catch-All

But aren’t you locking in the rate with treasury bonds for the duration of the term, just like with CDs? How realistic is it to think that in a 3 or 6 month term, the treasury would run out of money and I’d be shit out of luck and not recover my investment? Is it not federally insured? I’m...

Off-Topic "Severance" Thread ; "But I'm her, Mark. I'm her."

Finally finished it. I just don’t see it. It has its moments, it has its high-level qualities (visuals, some of the acting)… but there’s also a ridiculous kitchen sink element that was really on display in the finale. The loooong drawn out innie vs outie Mark camcorder sequence, the goats, the...

    Off-Topic Stock Market/Investing/Fin Planning Catch-All

What’s the story with treasury bonds? An advisor mentioned them to me as a slightly better rate currently than most CDs for comparable terms. But the biggest appeal seemed to be that for a treasury bond’s yields I wouldn’t incur state/NYC taxes… whereas with a CD, I would incur both, along...
