If nothing else, this election season has absolutely confirmed my belief that 2016 was a far more traumatic event for many liberals than is usually known. Even Biden winning in 2020 didn't fully erase it. Hopefully if Kamala wins this year it may finally start putting some of the trauma to rest for good.

I think we just want Trump gone, he is the ever present source of dread IMO.

Yes, but I also think it's pretty clear that Trump getting elected in 2016 shook many liberals to their core and created the dread that many people now feel. And we're now on our second presidential election since 2016 where the fear of Trump winning again is a waking nightmare.

I don't think it would be near as bad if he himself wasn't the candidate

Well, yeah. I'm not saying that it would be the same if the GOP had a different candidate. The whole point is that Trump shocked everybody (including probably himself) in 2016, and now here we are eight years later and he's still in the running for another term, and it's the lingering shock of him actually winning - and that enough Americans actually thought he was qualified in any way for the office - that created the trauma and anxiety that we're seeing. He's like a bad dream that just won't go away.

ETA: And that, of course, is precisely why so many Trumpers love him so much.

I doubt it.

That the Electoral College, US Senate, and US House have baked in advantages of land over people in terms of representation, the GOP/right-wing has a baked-in advantage.

The Democrats will have to pick Obama-esque candidates for POTUS and US Senate AND run campaigns comparable to Clinton’s 1992 and Obama’s 2008 ones in order to contend.

2020 census puts it at 48% desi. And yes, many are socially conservative. My son has an Indian friend who thinks that homosexuals are sub human.
When you hear stuff like that, it really makes you appreciate how far Americans have come with LGBTQ rights in recent decades.

I often point out that during the Nixon-Kennedy debates, if the subject came up, the question would be whether to treat homosexuality as a crime or a disease. What seems like slow or no progress really is and tends to gain momentum.

They’re going to try to convince you that the 2028 nominee, literally whoever it is, is worse than Trump.

They’d already started this with DeSantis when it seemed he was a viable challenger.
You've done the same with Kamala..

I am having trouble remembering, was it Joe Biden who was going to tank the stock market, plunge us into another Great Depression, force everyone’s kids to turn gay, tattoo everyone’s pronouns on their foreheads, and get us invaded by the Chinese, or is that now Kamala Harris? I’ve had such a great time checking my investment portfolio over the last few years I’ve had a hard time keeping the right wing theatrics straight sometimes.

It depends on where Republicans go from Trump. If Republicans steer towards the center and traditional conservative values, I don't think anyone will say that. If they steer deeper into MAGA waters, then that may well be true.

You mean to say that if the Republicans nominate someone who has the open and unabashed support of literal Nazis, people might say that that nominee is as bad or worse than Trump!?!?

Yes.

Trump just marked out Biden's name and wrote Kamala on all of his previous BS.
