They are all aping Trump. Trump constantly talks about himself and I guess his audience loves it because they are submissives? so sure, why not pervert all norms in a ritual display of narcissism?

I'll give the GOP credit for closely observing how Orban and his party came to dominate every level of Hungarian government and society and education and entertainment and then implementing it brilliantly so far here. And most of our own rotten institutions have just rolled over for them. It's all so depressing, and as I said in another post we're less than nine months into this nightmare. Orban never stopped having "elections" in Hungary, he's just rigged them in so many ways that it's virtually impossible for him and his party to lose. That may be what we're heading for here - they won't stop holding elections because that would lead to a major backlash, but instead they'll just make elections so one-sided that they can't lose control of Congress or the courts or the presidency again.

I don't think it will (or should) happen, but it would be hilarious if MAGA Nation somehow does overturn the 22nd Amendment and Trump is allowed to run for a third term, only to have Obama announce that he's going to run for a third term as well. He'd never say it in public, but that would likely be Trump's nightmare - a direct competition against the man he seems to hate (and fear) the most. And I do think he would lose that race.
