I know we've all been pessimistic on here since last year's elections, but what's happening tonight isn't really a surprise given Dear Leader's steadily declining approval ratings. He's simply extremely unpopular right now with the general public, and even in purple states like Georgia, evidently. Of course his MAGA base is still with him, but it looks like Democrats were more motivated to vote (as is usual for the out-of-power party in off-year elections) and independents have swung heavily against Trumpers, at least for now.

Having said that, it is awfully sweet to see a true blue wave sweeping nearly state. Democrats are not only winning, but doing so by much larger margins than initially thought possible. It's nice to be able to go to sleep on an election night smiling and not having a sense of dread. Of course we're still stuck with Dear Leader for a good while, but at least tonight he and his party are taking a big black eye from voters pretty much everywhere and in nearly every race.

Question 2 is HUGE. Unlimited access to guns in Maine has been sacrosanct.

20+ years ago, some idiot in Maine was acquitted of manslaughter because he claimed he thought the woman in HER backyard was a deer. She was wearing white gloves. Hanging laundry on the clothesline.

The mass killing by gunfire in Lewiston-Auburn must have made an impact. Another 1,000 or 2,000 mass killings by gunfire might make a difference.

There are some silver linings for Trump. They will put up Mamdani as the Democratic Party standard bearer and the communist and xenophobic rhetoric will hit all time highs. Also electing Jones in VA will fit their “assassination culture” propaganda.
Those aren’t silver linings. Those are their spin on a shitty night.

The GOP will attempt to identify Mandami as the Democratic Party standard-bearer in the future? Good luck with that. He’s not even eligible to ever run for president.

And the Jay Jones election was just further proof how pissed off people are at the Trump administration.
