I've never seen that kind of obsessive hero-worship for any other political candidate, including Obama. One guy in our neighborhood still has multiple yard signs and flags on his house and he even changes them out occasionally (a favorite seems to be his "The Outlaw and The Hillibilly 2024" yard sign). He also has a Don't Tread on Me and a Confederate Battle Flag hanging from his house as well as the blue Trump 2024 & Trump 2020 flags. And my neighborhood is a nice one with nice homes and pretty mixed politically (there were some Kamala signs last year, although they disappeared pretty quick after the election, as usually happens even with the winning candidate. But not Trump.)

I confess that I am psyched about following tonight's elections. If Dems have blow out numbers, I will have a good night's sleep. If Dems disappoint, then I will toss and turn tonight and spend tomorrow researching which democratic countries will accept American refugees...

Right, wrong or delusional, Wall Street certainly doesn’t want to see socialist policies in NYC.

Trump and MAGA also seem to have grievance about seeing a Muslim candidate win, but it is more politically palatable to attack him as a “communist” or “antisemite” (and more effective against Dems nationally) than directly for being Muslim (but there has been plenty of that as well)

And Mamdani has real political vulnerability on some of his past statements about Israel, so antisemitism attacks might be the most effective with important parts of the NYC electorate.

Exactly. The Republicans are rooting hard for Mamdani.

At least the Republicans who don’t live in NYC.

Maybe those folks will turn out to be right, but I would suggest they remember that many Dems were rooting for Trump in the 2016 Republican primaries based on similar logic. And we all know how that turned out.
 
I think Dems will comfortably win the governor's race in VA; the other statewide races will be close (I'd bet on Jones losing). Mamdani probably wins but I say it's closer than expected. NJ is the real one to watch; losing that race would be an absolute disaster for Dems.
