Growing up, I remember thinking Florida was this magical amazing place (80s). That mindset for many is long gone. Florida is now regarded as the place for Florida Man, other insanity, old people, and big conservative government

That has definitely changed who looks to move to Florida

Patton Oswalt once said the only reason anyone should ever go to Florida is to identify the body of their missing daughter.

Dark, but probably true.

Exactly. Party organization and candidate quality can make some differences at the edges (2024 NC governor race proves that) but Florida's party affiliation changes suggest some deeper demographic change.

I'd think the most logical argument would be that more Republicans than Democrats have moved to Florida in the last decade. That would be my first supposition to explain the changes.
All the pubs in the country should just move to Florida and Texas, leaving all other states more open to actual policy thought.

Then it will be easier to succeed.

They are moving- from blue states. Won’t help politically because it just makes those states bluer and Fla and TX redder

The Wilmimgton to Myrtle Beach area is Blowing up -mostly retirees Little subdivions every half mile
It will be intereting to see who "they are" The tiny subset I know are all retired Govt workers-Dems

The articles I’ve read about Brunswick County’s recently arrived retirees is that they’re anti-tax Trumplicans. The county last had a Democrat win a majority in 1980. It’s 60% plus Trump.

Horry County, SC, voted 68% for Trump. Seven of its ten SC House seats are GOP; three of its five SC Senate seats are as well.

That area is increasingly anti-government white retirees.

Mamdani surges in new poll, leading Cuomo for first time in New York mayor’s race

The former governor has topped every voter survey since entering the race, but the democratic socialist is gaining on him.

“… The survey, conducted by Public Policy Polling for Democrat Justin Brannan’s city comptroller campaign, found Mamdani beating Cuomo 35 percent to 31 percent — a difference that is narrowly within the 4.1 percent margin of error.

[Other polling shows Cuomo with a lead of 2-12 points head to head, but more than two candidates are running]

… What was once a long-shot candidacy by the 33-year-old candidate has evolved into a competitive effort to lead the nation’s largest city.

Cuomo has sharpened his attacks against Mamdani in recent days by questioning his thin resume and ability to lead a complex city government. The two will face off in another debate Thursday night.…”

Is it time to give Paperboy Love Prince a shot?

A NYC mayor a named Zohran Mamdani will make MAGA apoplectic.
Oh, it gets far more tRiGgERinG!!!! than that. Mamdani’s is/was:

- born in Uganda
- Shia Muslim
- a Democratic Socialist
- a hip hop fan, and even released a single himself!
- is married to a Syrian

At least per wiki.

The Trump approval ratings feom
Hispanics should make us all cringe. The Democrats have to find a way into that population. The message they are using now is the opposite of good. They continue to lose the demographic that is growing the most.

It sounds like ICE will be deporting him soon.

Oh, if I was still a book maker I’d put the odds of him getting arrested/detained at even money, and would expect the line to drop to -110 to -150. I think we’ve steadily stepped into an era of political violence, that’s only going to accelerate. In that environment, getting arrested and/or detained will become a rite of passage for progressive candidates.

But the ranked choice ballot structure really makes it tough to know how it will shake out.

The fact that Cuomo called on Bill Clinton to endorse him late in the process is telling that he felt threatened — that is probably not a political chip he wanted to use in the primary.
