That woman gives off serious Lauren Boebert / M.T. Greene / Laura Loomer vibes.
In 1992, while she was a student at Marquette University, she wrote several columns for the Marquette Tribune critical of homosexuality and comparing abortionto the Holocaust and slavery. In the columns, written under her maiden name, Rebecca Grassl, she wrote, "One will be better off contracting AIDS than developing cancer, because those afflicted with the politically correct disease will get all the funding," and "How sad that the lives of degenerate drug addicts and queers are valued more than the innocent lives of more prevalent ailments." as well as "Heterosexualsex is very healthy in a loving relationship; homosexual sex, however, kills."In another article, Bradley compared abortion to a "time in history when Jews were treated as nonhumans and tortured and murdered" and "a time in history when blacks were treated as something less than human"

Yes she is. Wisky turned quite sour on the state level for a while -- Scott Walker, Ron Johnson, the judiciary. There are a lot of pro-lifers in that area.

She was elected in 2016, IIRC. It was an April election.

It was a non-partisan election. Many Democrats still naively thought judicial elections should be non-partisan and non-political.

In 2016, Scott Walker was Governor and the GOP was running roughshod over Wisconsin.

How Democrats Won Wisconsin In 2025: Turnout.

“… Our estimate is that the voters who voted in the 2025 Supreme Court election backed Kamala Harris by 7 points in 2024. In other words, roughly 70% of Susan Crawford’s win margin was attributable to changes in who was voting, rather than changes in how people voted. While the persuasion she got would still have been enough to flip the state with a November 2024 electorate (which was Trump +1), the landslide victory largely came down to a big turnout advantage. …”

It's so crazy to me that we have learned over and over again that having judges appointed rather than elected gets us better judges, yet we still have so many places where judges get elected and we end up with crap like this
Is that really true, though? Thomas and Alito were appointed. The 5th circuit and the district judges therein were appointed.

You can find any exception to the rule. My point is not that every appointed judge is good or that every elected judge as bad; my point is that we have learned over and over again that having a system where judges can focus on judging rather than campaigning and winning elections is superior.

Well, I know that there can be exceptions to every rule. I used to think as you do -- appointed judges, judicial independence, etc. Now I'm not so sure.

Probably on balance federal judges are better than state judges. But the talent pool is much deeper, and the job is considerably more prestigious. So are they better because of appointment, or because federal judges will always be better? [they also have more resources].

I honestly don't know the answer.
