2025-2026 NBA Thread - Portland HC Chauncey Billups, Miami G Terry Rozier arrested for gambling.

So anytime there is significant action on a player prop bet and the player gets hurt, it is now suspicious?

“…
New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that defendants used “technologically sophisticated operation designed to carry out their crimes.” This included “custom shuffling machines that could read the order of cards, barcoded decks and hidden cameras built into tables and light fixtures.”

She added that organizers also enlisted “well-known public figures, former and current NBA players and coaches,” including Chauncey Billups, “to make the games appear legitimate – victims believe that they were sitting at a fair table.”

Victims lost “millions,” she said, with one particular victim losing $1.8 million in total.

“(Total) losses exceeded $7 million and continue to climb,” she said.…”

So the issue is not that Billups is a competitive guy who enjoyed some high stakes poker, they are alleging he knowingly participated in rigged games, distracting duped players while the mob cheated …

I thought it might have just been illegal gambling with illegal poker games. But they were rigging the games to defraud people. That's a whole other ballgame. Still, saying there is no room for criminal behavior under Trump is absurd.

Looks like some serious criminals got their hooks into Billups.

Or, Billups is a serious criminal.
Yeah, I wondered whether he was also something of a victim whose own gambling losses or other mob-arranged activities ended up with him being blackmailed or strong-armed into this? Or is he just a dude who thought hooking up with the mob for some dirty poker sounded like a thrill?

Wow really? Still going after illegal poker operations?

Now this I have a different opinion on than sports betting. I personally think it's laughable that sports betting - which I find to be far more insidious, addicting, and bad for society (and not to mention more predatory on the part of whoever is running the book) - is legal while poker is not.
It did say this game was tied to the mob. Doesn’t seem like it is just a bunch of friends playing amongst themselves.

Sports gambling is now so prevalent I have had multiple conversations with my son about the stupidity of gambling on sports. I hope it has gotten through to him.

A few thoughts.

1. Good. I really never liked Chauncey Billups. Always regarded him as an arrogant ass.

2. As a Heat fan, I can say that our entire fanbase has been praying to get Terry off our payroll for months. Because he sucks. Yet Spoelstra has to keep playing him to justify the contract they foolishly gave him. So Kash Patel has done the entire city of Miami a tremendous favor here. It'll likely be Kash's only net positive in his entire legacy.

3. Go ahead and marvel at Wemby all you want. Enjoy it while it lasts. Because with his size and aggressive play style, those twig legs of his are one hard foul or bad landing from snapping in half. And he'll never be the same again after that happens.

Womp womp, I know...
