As I think someone else said earlier, Dems got their dream result in Texas, IMO. A largely uncontroversial primary with a clear winner (and I think the right winner) while Pubs will spend time and money in a circular firing squad in a run-off. Personally I still don't think Dems have more than a 1 in 3 shot of flipping that senate seat, even if the national electoral environment is as positive as hoped (and especially if Cornyn, who I think will be harder to beat, is the nominee), but IMO that's a better shot than they've ever had before.

Let Zoo be the ornery Zoo we have come to know and love. His experience and historical knowledge of NC politics and UNC sports makes him a very valuable contributor to the board. He takes me to task from time to time and is quick to dismiss my proxy campaign for Congress years ago, but I take no offense. Let Zoo be Zoo ;)
I don’t dismiss your campaign for Congress years ago. I admire your gumption for running and making your views known.

I do dismiss the idea that the media should have covered a longshot candidate with any depth.

Pretty sure it's a combination of both:

I'm not suggesting congressional Pubs actually have any personal morals here that make them conflicted. They simply realize that even by modern Republican standards, the whole thing is an absolute PR nightmare.
Following up on this, I don't think it's any coincidence that this inquiry was announced as soon as it became clear that Gonzales's primary would go to a run-off:

I think some folks on the R side are going to push Gonzales to drop out of the primary runoff, and slow-walk this investigation until his term is up if he agrees.
