I do think that Puerto Rico will become a state eventually, but it will probably be sometime around the end of the 21st Century (like 60 or 70 years from now) before it happens - after the white population has shrunk enough and other demographic changes have occurred - for it to have a chance. But in our immediate future there's no way in hell that Republicans will allow anything to happen that might reduce their power in Congress or anywhere else.

My former student from PR told me to not assume PR would vote Dem. Many are catholic and socially conservative. And most of the intellectual and entrepreneurial minded have all left the island - so primarily what’s left behind are MAGA material.

That may well be true, but I think that whether it ultimately would vote GOP or Dem it's still going to take several decades for it to become a state as white MAGA Republicans will never in their current form agree to make it a state for racist reasons alone. It will take decades for it to ultimately become a state, even if it does vote Republican when it does (assuming that there are still Republicans and Democrats around in a half-century or so, which right now is a big if. Hell, the USA in its current form likely won't exist if things keep developing as they are).

I suspect that the next three years will play the same pivotal role on building left leaning politicians and political coalitions as the late 1960s/early 70s did. For better and for worse, those coalitions have remained in power for the last half century. We will see what the impact of the rise of new blood has moving forward.

No doubt, and I've mentioned it before. A lot of female GOP politicians refuse to see that they are members of a party that is openly hostile to placing women in high leadership roles, and especially the presidency - just look at what Pete Hegseth is doing to female leadership in the military. Yes Trump has Leavitt as Press Secretary and Bondi as AG, but neither of those are usually considered top positions, and Trump's own comments about Leavitt have focused mostly on her good looks, and he clearly seems to evaluate women in public roles based on their physical attractiveness rather than effectiveness or qualifications.

Someone awhile back said that if the MAGA base wasn't in favor of having women in top leadership roles then why were some GOP women serving as state governors or members of Congress? My reply would be that it's one thing to serve in what most voters would consider subordinate roles, but will MAGA voters support a woman for president? I seriously doubt it, unless she's running against a Democrat, and if the Democrat is male I'm still not sure that some MAGAs just wouldn't stay home on election day, or leave that part of the ballot blank. And of course she'd have to win the GOP nomination to start with, which is very, very unlikely. It's like conservative churches where women can sometimes serve as the music minister or a Sunday School teacher, but they'll never let them get the top job of being the main pastor or a leader of the denomination (like Southern Baptists, say).

And anyone who believes that there isn't some serious misogyny and sexism in the MAGA movement just needs to listen to Trump's speech in NC yesterday. It's shot through with it.
