Hmmm...a strong belief in inherited behavior and traits were at the very foundation of the worldview of the Cavalier Elites that made up the ruling class of The American South...people like Washington and Jefferson and Madison for example saw bloodlines and genealogy as at the very root of why they felt they should be in charge.

"Some men are born saddled, and others booted and spurred.”

Honestly? Normally I don’t have an issue with the add campaign, or the term “good genes.”. But Trump’s comments to Minnesotans back in 2020 do give me pause. They are likely at the heart of this absurd discussion.

“You have good genes, you know that, right?” Trump said at a recent campaign rally. “You have good genes. A lot of it is about the genes, isn’t it, don’t you believe? The racehorse theory. You think we’re so different? You have good genes in Minnesota.”

“Every family in Minnesota needs to know about sleepy Joe Biden’s extreme plan to flood your state with an influx of refugees from Somalia, from other places all over the planet.”

It, like many things that come out of Trump’s mouth, is a little creepy.

I'll be honest.... 17% saying it's inappropriate isn't as reassuring as you might think. That's close to 1/5 people.
Eh, I dunno. That's far lower than the percentage of the population who believe Trump's "Big Lie" that the 2020 election was stolen from him. So remember we're starting from the baseline that something like a quarter to a third of Americans are gullible idiots.

No, it’s closer to 1 out of 6 people than it is to 1 out of 5. And you think 1 out of 6 liberals giving a shit about this equates to a massive outcry?

Why don’t you just admit that you got duped by right wing media… again?

It was 1 out of 6 total. The liberals were about 1 out of 3.

I think those situations are different. Believing the Big Lie is more about being intellectually lazy and falling victim to social media/confirmation bias.

Having an issue with the AE commercial is more about principles and personal beliefs.

Eh - maybe, though I do think there's probably some "social media/confirmation bias" at work here too. If you spend all your time on, like, woke progressive TikTok, that's going to affect you and how you see the world. You start looking for problems that aren't really there. Like the old saw that when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

But back to the main point - I really don't think that 17% is particularly surprising or worrisome. If you poll Americans on all sorts of things, you would get some pretty deranged looking results depending on how you asked the questions. And whatever the cause the fact that 30% or so of people believe the "Big Lie" is a much bigger danger sign (and a much bigger problem) than what people see in a jeans ad.

There is almost no subject that won’t get at least 17% positive responses. Is the earth flat? Do vaccines cause autism? Is Bill Gates part of the Illuminati? Is th earth 6,000 years old? Give me just about any poll question and I’ll get you 17%.
